Hey ken , edision lighthouse was a 70's british pop band, it's a good song as well. I'd call it a pop love song.

Re: What song was #1 on the day you were born.

They didn't start the UK charts until 1953 ... so it was "I Believe" by Frankie Laine. in the US on my birthday which was July 30 1951, Rosemary Clooney's "Come on a ma House", can't place it, but I was a bit young then!

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: What song was #1 on the day you were born.

upyerkilt, "Love Grows" is an excellent song with a strong guitar riff.  "Venus" is most likely the one in the Gillette ad?

To Ozymandias, I  Googled mine, search for No 1's on this day

GACK  "Ain't that a shame" sung by Pat Boone

Now I feel nauseous.  <grin>   But, I seriously loath Pat Boone.  As well as his daughter's singing of "You light up my life".  The original overplayed, over saturated air waves piece of crap.  In second place is Celine Dion's version of "My heart will go on", from the movie "Trypanic", err, oops, "Titanic".

{end rant and obvious off tangent thread deviation)  <grin>

Re: What song was #1 on the day you were born.

Mine are

UK : Shakin’ All Over - Johnny Kidd and The Pirates ( which I am very happy about and remember trying to kick my way out for a dance and a strum.)

US : I’m Sorry - Brenda Lee ( No idea !!!)

Aus : Just A Closer Walk With Thee – Jimmie Rodgers ( Nooooo !!)

All seem very apt for that wet and dry experience.

Hi Alan,

I am shocked, astounded, bewildered and utterly amazed that you have never heard Brenda Lee's I'm Sorry and I have taken steps to correct this grave ommission from your musical education.

Brena Lee AKA Little Miss Dynamite is petite with an incredible voice and is absolutely drop dead gorgeous.

pretty cool link southpaw. mine is "love letters in the sand " by Pat Boone.According to my one son they had to call the song that as paper hadn't been invented yet. LOL  And I have to agree with ozymandias, I never cared for Pat Boone (or his saccarine sweet daughter) and am totally amazed that he had the following that he did. Oh well,ya just never know.

Re: What song was #1 on the day you were born.

Appropriately, it was Eve of Destruction by Barry Maguire for me.

I picked the US charts because I was only born in one place.

Re: What song was #1 on the day you were born.

Roger,

Thank you sir.

Sure we all have our wee lacunae. Since coming onto this site I have picked up a number of interesting "finds" - UYK mentioned Richard Thompson who I hadn't heard before, and someone else mentioned "The  Waybacks* which I found of great value

Mind you, having "you tubed" the Lee lady, I'm still none the wiser why she got to number 1. Ain't that the way ?
