Topic: Rock is dead?

I've been to a lot of rock shows lately and I must say that I have been sorely dissapointed.  Not necesarily by the music, but by the crowd reaction, the people were stolid and frowning.  It's true that it's very rare to see a group that isn't competely trite, and maybe that's why no one moves, but the music is still kind of OK.  I don't get it.  Could rock have died in the last year or two?


Maybe people are just tired of the lack of creativity in new edgy music...


any thoughts?

The last live rock show I went to was here in Portugal and the star was Rui Veloso. OK I had not heard of him either but he is 'the father of rock and roll' here and has been their number one performer for many years. Although I could not understand a word, my Portugese is terrible, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.


What I found incredible though was that there were younsters to senior citizens  not only tapping feet and clapping hands to the music but singing along to his songs. Everyone enjoyed it and the atmosphere was electric.

that sounds like it must've been a great show, Maybe it's the NY scene that is just aweful...maybe not...

It's not dead, but it never really recovered since grundge if you ask me. I could remember living in CA, and in Seattle at the time and it was truly spiecal. Even the lesser bands were pretty damn good.

Most people where i live hate rock and like dj so i think rock might but Im the opposite I hate dj and like rock. I still think rock hasnt died in alot of areas too because when i went to see guns n roses it was mental. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_razz.gif" border=0 alt="Razz">

rock cannot be dead. i hate rap and if rock is dead, there'll be no good music left...

Hey Danspar if you like the blues google Matt Minglewood for some good rockin blues.  A great blues man with a tight band.
