Topic: New SX Electric Guitars

Sooo... I bought my son and husband new guitars for Christmas.  Pictures will be coming soon.  My husband is having a blast playing with the pickup selector and the amp settings getting different sounds from his.  My 13 year old son however seems to be a little overwhelmed, or even maybe confused about how to get different sounds.  He has the three single coil pickups with a 5 way selector, and just a basic amp.  Can anyone lead me to a website that offers some basics on how to set the selector and amp settings to get different sounds?  I'm sure just playing with it, he'll get it eventually... but maybe some hints or tricks to help out would get him going a little faster.

Re: New SX Electric Guitars

Thank you Pix!  That is just what I was looking for!

So... they guys were both excited to open up the guitars, and I finally got my hands on one of them last night.  They play very nice... fairly easy to fret (my husband's is the fat strat copy).  He bought himself the Line 6 Spider IV amp and there's a lot of cool effects that can be done with it.  Apparently Line 6 has some pdf's on their site for amp settings too... so that's cool as well!

Sooo... here's the pics of the boys and their new guitars:

my son with his SX strat copy (um, don't think he was into me taking a flash photo of him at the time... LOL!)

While we were at the guitar center last night picking up the hubby's amp I looked again at the Squires... and I cannot get over how much nicer my son's guitar (my husbands too) is than those... AND his was STILL cheaper as a package!  Rondo rocks!  Thanks again to everyone that helped me with that decision and steering me in the proper direction!  If anyone would like a closer look at the guitars... or hear them or anything to help make their own decisions... please ask!  I'll be happy to help!

Re: New SX Electric Guitars

have they changed their headstock shape recently? Mine is a lot more like a Fender headstock but with a slight hook instead of the ball...

Re: New SX Electric Guitars

They did change the SX and Agile headstocks on Rondo Music's site as of about Summer or so. I also have the older headstock on both my SX's.

MKM...congrats...now you're next to receive a new one...right?

Re: New SX Electric Guitars

Ha ha... well... while he was picking out his amp last night, I was playing with the electro acoustics... Ibanez has some mighty nice sounding ones.  Of course, I've only had mine for a few months, so I'd better wait a little longer before I get too excited about that!

The fat strat one looks mighty cool!

I have a couple of guitars from Rondo. They are excellent values.

Re: New SX Electric Guitars

The only complaint I have is that the set up on my husband's guitar was all wrong.  He didn't know the first thing about electrics... and just could NOT get it to sound good.  Soooo... he downloaded info from Fender on "how to" set up their fat strat... and he did it!  First try, he did it!  So, not really a complaint (tho it would have been great if it had come all set up good from the beginning).  Hey, he learned something new too.  I do wish Rondo's site had info on set ups... and their website could use a little friendlier navigation.  But hey... I paid for 3 day shipping and both guitars were here the very next day.  I got emails all along the way for tracking info.  And both boys are in love with their guitars.  So really... I will not complain.  Learning how to set up a guitar is a small price to pay for the excellent price on these!  And like I said, it's not really a bad thing!

OH... welcome to the site Joe (I think I welcomed you elsewhere... but welcome again!)

Re: New SX Electric Guitars

Yeah.....You do need to set 'em up; this is true. That holds true for most guitars even ones you purchase from major retailers. I've had to set up Fenders, Epiphones, etc. The little guys usually perfomr the set up for you but those days are ending with shrinking margins, big box stores and foriegn competition.
Look at the bright side, when you get your new guitar you can make him set it up for you!
