Topic: Wedding Songs

Well,

I have been asked by my niece to provide the music for her wedding in June of next year. I am honored she has asked me. She has been a good friend.  We have played guitar together over the years and have had a special bond through music . She has turned the music over to me and trusts me to pull it off.

I wanted one special song from Lizzie and I to her. I will be doing two songs during the wedding and I will play while folks are being seated and whatever else goes on before it starts. I have never had this much time to prepare but I am already excited and looking for material. Anyway I would like to do "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan , I haven't heard of anyone doing this song for a wedding but I think it is one of the Best Songs ever written.

Here's a vid with lyrics.

That is without a doubt an amazing song.

Re: Wedding Songs

I played this one at my youngest daughters wedding about two yeras ago.  She loved it.  If I Should Fall Behind by Bruce Springsteen.  Give it a listen.  It's a pretty song.  Try to find the song from his album, rather than a live one because it sounds much better to me.
Here is a pretty good cover of the song.  It gives a better sense of the melody.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Wedding Songs

Hi guys
Great song choice Wayne.  Only thing is we in the UK can't access the link you gave - something to do with Sony copyright so here's a link to a live recording from Greensboro 1978 for the UK peeps.

Re: Wedding Songs

Great choice Wayne. That's one of Dylan's best for sure (and with his catalog that is saying something). I'm a sucker for that song from Paul Stookey song too. I think it's called the Wedding Song. I know it's over used but I still like it.

I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused.

Re: Wedding Songs

I have to agree with everybody else, it's always been one of my favourite Dylan numbers along with What's a Sweetheart like you.

When me and Mrs Buzzwagon got married we had the following:

People being seated we had Fleetwood Mac / Need your love so bad
Our entrance, (registry office wedding) Walking by Myself / Gary Moore
Signing the register we had a little jazz guitar number by a local band called Ultraswing who are very much in the vein of Django / Grappelli
Walking out we had Since I met you Baby / Gary Moore

You'd never know we were blues lovers would you!

Re: Wedding Songs

Thanks,

I am glad there are others that like this song and think it will work. Sometimes my family thinks my taste in music is kinda weird.
It is gonna be a country western themed wedding, so the others I choose may have to have a hint of country in them. My sister in law gave me a warning.

" No David Alan Coe basement underground songs" smile

Anyway I wanted one special song and "Forever Young" it will be !  I am just gonna do some instrumentals before the action starts , so I guess it will be a G C D progression for a half hour or so.   Just kiddin smile  I might throw in a few minor chords to mix it up smile

Heya Pete,
That is a good song and I am familiar with it, I just don't think I do it very well. Sometimes they click and some don't, great song tho,
Thanks

Re: Wedding Songs

Well,

I wanted a couple nice songs that stray alittle from the norm and I think "Forever Young" and "Sparkle and Shine" will work perfect for me . I hoped the bride and the wedding party like them. It is a country themed wedding but I have trouble with most of the slow country stuff so  I hope these work.

I have been working on Steve Earle's "Sparkle & Shine"   I have just about got the guitar picking down. Most of the tabs aren't correct for this song and there are not many available. I have it worked out for the most part .

I really like this one and I got the thumbs up from Lizzie smile
