Topic: Devil Woman, Marty Robbins cover

I'm still working on getting the sound right.  I think you are right Zurf, the mix is about as good as I'm going to get.  As I was recording this, I noticed how I try to sound as much like the artist as I can, not that I am coming close.  I grew up singing a lot with popular songs, as we all do, and I have always made it a point to try to sound as much like the artist as I could.  Just a habit.  But now that I am doing a few covers, I really want to put my own spin on it, but can't seem to let go of the desire to sound like the artist.  I'm working on it, but its not working with me.  I do find that it is a whole new world when I do think about it and try putting in different sounds.  Its actually fun, but then I see that red record button lit up I revert back to my old ways.  Practice, I guess.

Re: Devil Woman, Marty Robbins cover

Pete, Marty Robbins was years ahead of his time back in the day.
He was my dad's favorite country singer and a class act.
I really enjoyed your rendition and wish to encourage you to continue pounding out the hits.
I think your equipment sounds great.

Re: Devil Woman, Marty Robbins cover

Thanks, toots.  That means a lot. My dad loved the old classics too.  I grew up listening to Hank Snow, Jim Reeves and many others.

Ok Pete; another oldie but goodie!  I too, grew up listening to many of the same you mentioned, especially loved the nights I was allowed to accompany my grandfather to his bar to help close up.  I used to get all of the worn our 45 rpm records and play them over and over again.  Still love most of that music to this day.  Good job my firend!

Thanks Bass Viking.  I guess once you get old you just can't get out of the past, music wise anyway.
