Topic: Weight Falling Off

After I hit my bench press goal it was time to start taking weight off. I did low carb, low cal, paleo, south beach, etc. Tried them all and the fat was just so sticky - couldn't get it off me! At the urging (with the help of a little bet) from a good friend, I decided to do 60 days of veganism. No meat, no dairy, no fish. Nothing that is made from a being that ever had a pulse. (Including butter and broth.)

Given those restrictions, I've been eating like an absolute pig. I am doing absolutely no portion control whatsoever and I eat whatever I want, whenever I want, so long as it isn't from an animal.  I could tell after the first few days that my body was changing. I have ignored the scale because I don't want to pressure myself. So I've just been livin' vegan for three weeks. Still drinking beers. No exercise other than walking the puppy.

On Sunday I noticed that a shirt seemed way too big for me. This AM I noticed that a pair of khakis was enormous on me. I stopped by the gym for a weigh in and measurements.

In 3 weeks I've lost 3 inches, 23 pounds, and my resting pulse has gone from 95+ to the high 60's, low 70's. I have had almost no meat cravings. I wake up more alert and ready for my day than I ever have. I've also cut out sweeteners, anything artificial, and refined flours. (Although these don't violate veganism since the diet change was so easy I just figured what the heck?) I stuff my face all day and the weight is just falling off. No noticeable reduction in muscle volume, stamina, or anaerobic performance.

This is quite literally the easiest dietary change I've ever done. I'm really happy with the results so far and can't wait to see what the next 5 weeks have in store!

mmmmmmmm.... BACON!

Sorry, I just don't think I could do it.  Although I think I could probably do vegan better than I could do the whole flour thing.  I really am quite addicted to carbs.  Either way, GOOD FOR YOU!  23 pounds in 3 weeks and still feeling awesome is pretty gosh darn amazing!

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Weight Falling Off

I'm thrilled for you.  It's so exciting to lose weight.  Every time I lose weight, I gain it back again.  There is absolutely no chance that I'm going to try a vegan diet.  I get terrible headaches if I go even two days without significant protein.  Beans don't count.  Not even close.

Re: Weight Falling Off

I'm in the meat boat also. If it's working for you then that's great. That just means more meat for me.

Keep it up Baldy. That's awesome.

Here's a sorta funny story. A friend of my wife's is vegetarian. She is now dealing with some tumors that may be cancerous. Recently she had to see a specialist who scans all of your fluids for anything abnormal. Turns out she is lacking animal proteins. That's the funny part, she needs what she chooses not to eat. Just another reason to show that meat is good for you.

Keep Rockin!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Weight Falling Off

Meatwise, I have only eaten chicken for the last 20 years (I dislike the taste and texture of all other meat) however my diet has suffered badly the past few weeks since a doctor banned me from eating fish after a slight allergic reaction.

Anyway, well done Joe. I am pleased the diet is working for you.

Re: Weight Falling Off

I was raised in the midwest and thought I'd crave the crap outta some meat, but turns out to not be the case. I'll add back fish later this year. I intend to start lifting heavy again in November so I'll def. need the protein. Thanks for the support all!
