Topic: Strumming patterns

Does anyone have a good way to figure out the strumming patterns for songs? When I read the chords on the music I just dont know when to strum and when to switch to the other chords. I know all songs are different so I was just wondering if there was a trick?

Re: Strumming patterns

it's just best to know the song. If you don't know it then listen to it whilst you play to know where the changes are arranged.

Re: Strumming patterns

When you strum, try to strum down first, with the downbeat of the song.  There are four downbeats in a measure.  Once you can strum down with the beat, then try to strum up in between the downbeats (these are upbeats.)

Re: Strumming patterns

For me it is essential to listen to the song. Seeing it written down with chords written above it is not enough for me either. I must listen to the song. Then it's just a case of getting the rythmn right. As long as you have the rythm right it'll be ok.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??
