Topic: guitar hanger cheap option?

some  time  ago  some  one  posted about  guitar  hangers ,cant  find  the  original  post  but  I  saw  this  today  on face book and  thought  what    a  good  idea .

I  hope  the  link  works  but  if  it  doesnt  this  guy has  taken  a  cheap pine  shelving  kit  and cut  a  hole  in to  match  the  neck  width  of  a  guitar  enabling  it  to  hang .Dependent on the  length of  shelf  you  could  always  cut  more  holes  and hang  more  guitars .
May  be  a  problem on deeper  acoustics  but  it  seems  good  for  electrics

Looks like a good idea to me.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

I think I would add some foam around the wood.  Ihats a pretty rough  wood to wood surface,  but the Idea is solid smile

There is a large rubber-coated metal U shaped thing- built for hanging tools like shovels and pitchforks. It has a threaded screw end that works perfectly as a guitar hanger. The surface doesn't scratch the finish.
I put a half-inch board on the wall, started a pilot hole and screwed them right in. Now my walls are covered with guitars....

APEX makes one that I use (have several of them) that are solid, have safety rings on the ends to prevent a guitar slipping off, are covered in EVA foam which won't discolour guitar finishes, pivot at the base, and cost about $10 each. It didn't make sense to me to trust my instruments to something sketchy. Here's a photo of one:

Be careful with those hooks. They have been known to eat through the finish on guitars. They are inexpensive and usually covered with red vinyl. Something in the vinyl reacts with the finish. It wont happen instantly but it has happened.

Re: guitar hanger cheap option?

I'll echo what JJJ said.

The tool hook coatings are typically PVC (polyvinyl chloride). The chloride component corrodes most guitar finishes, leaving them in a permanently semi-liquid state, i.e., gooey. Some of the economy guitar stands have orange surgical tubing on them which is also PVC, and should be avoided. Better quality hangers & stands use EVA (ethlylene vinyl acetate) which is inert to guitar finishes and won't do any damage.

Sorry if this sounds like being a know-it-all, but this info was relayed to me several years ago and prevented some needless damage.

I like these. Make sure you screw them into a stud.

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
