Topic: One Chord Song?

Imagine a <b>One chord </b>song.....impossible?

How easy would it be to learn.... an ideal starter track to get people hooked........ how?

Learn one chord... <b>"E"  </b>

play it till you can hear it in your mind all the notes one by one....now tune your guitar to this <b>"E"</b> chord... then play the <b>E</b> chord shape again

two chords..but only knowing one chord   (ok I cheated-ish)

Now hear what it sounds like:- go to <b>www.motagator.net/john_cully </b>

click on <b>'music'</b> and scroll down to <i><b>"My Eyes"</b></i>

Play loud  and pass it on

Re: One Chord Song?

Try Bob Dylan's  "Hollis Brown".  Its written in D.  The chords are.. D.

There's a rolling bass line at the end of each line that makes it sound like more than D. Check it out. One of the best one chord songs I know.

Now available in 5G !

Re: One Chord Song?

Hey there,I gotta add my 2cents,

there is an actual song call One Chord Song and its by Keith Urban. (whether or not its his or written by someone else I dunno) Its on his Golden Road cd .It plays like 2 min after the last song on the cd.And I believe that it may be play with one string althought that really isnt a chord. Its just when you hear it you cant hear all 6 strings being strummed. As to what chord its in Im not sure <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_confused.gif" border=0 alt="Confused">

bonedaddy...
no it's not, it's a picked Am, Em, C, Cm.

Re: One Chord Song?

Pink's Get the Party Started is a Bm chord throughout, and Nilsen's Lime in the Coconut is an A7.

Re: One Chord Song?

Back in the 70s everyone claimed Black Sabbath's 'Paranoid' was a one chord song. It isn't and outside the realms of bad punk and stoned hippy droning most music has variation. I could name some songs with one note solos but the key point is the player bends or whamis some variation into the note. This actually harder than it sounds so a beginner should look for songs with basic open chords (avoid sharps, flats, Bs and Fs) mid-tempo with a strong beat, nothing too fey (yep it's hard to play Donovan).

Re: One Chord Song?

If you give F*****' In The Bushes by Oasis a rythym guitar part, it is E minor all the way through, if I am correct, which I am. hmm

Re: One Chord Song?

Kate & Anna McGarrigle recorded "Green Green Rocky Road" with Louden Wainwright III on their album The McGarrigle Hour.  It is in D chord only.

Re: One Chord Song?

John lee Hooker used to vamp around the E chord for many songs,  Bruce Springsteen's born in the USA is in just B and B/E
