How about covering my own song? smile

I was playing around with chord progressions last winter and came up with this. I then got together with Scott and he added his special flare to it. I want to add another section but haven't done it yet. This was our 2nd or 3rd time through it.

I named it Movin' On.

Re: APRIL 2018 FSOTM - COLORS - INSTRUMENTAL

I did this instrumental  a while back based on the "House of the rising sun"
I can see it's not in the mentioned titles but hope it's worth a listen.
I've got "Greensleeves" recorded somewhere I will see if I can find it.
Thanks.

That was great unclejoesband, thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.  Scott`s flare definitely added to it.  Well done and will look forward to seeing what you decide to add to it smile

arkady ....so great to see you enter something for us smile    Wow that was really good,  such a different take on that song, loved what you did with it.  Hope to hear Greensleeves too if you still have it smile

I thought I'd commented on these first ones a while ago, but seems my comments went missing ...

I love it - Scott really makes it flow, his playing style reminds me of a guy I used to jam with ... there's a bit that reminds me of the Cat Stevens song (think it was from Peace Train??)

Good to see you joining in - hope to hear more!!

Nice, I like the way you've arranged this, and the organ (?) in the background sounds very etheral

Good to see you joining in - hope to hear more!!

I've never heard "Black is the colour" before, you did a great version of it!!!

"Going home" was pretty good too, but you've got a good voice and should do more vocal songs!!!!

Cheers

Thank you for your kind words. I do not normally do instrumentals, I am a rhythm guitarist not a lead but, as I teach, I do need to take my students down that path aways to see where their talents lie and then pass them on to a lead guitarist instructor if needs be. This is one of the pieces that I will teach them to determine which road they initially take.

I recorded the lead on my baritone ukulele with the baritone and a tenor uke doing rhythm. Drum and bass were courtesy of 'Band-in-a-Box'.

Re: APRIL 2018 FSOTM - COLORS - INSTRUMENTAL

Thanks Jan, Neo and Roger for your good comments.
Neo a nice set of covers there your a versatile and talented musician a picturesque setting for them  smile
Roger always liked 'Going home' never recorded myself you did a great job with it.
I found 'Greensleeves' sort of smile I was going through my Medieval period big_smile so it sort of got used as a prolog for a piece called the 'Minstrel'
https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13714593

Also another piece based on 'She moves through the fair' a folk song with a strange history as to where it originated from.

Re: APRIL 2018 FSOTM - COLORS - INSTRUMENTAL

Ark, I like the transition in the middle of Greensleeves, it makes it far more interesting. I have never heard She Moves Through the Fair before but that is a seriously good piece of music. I am a little surprised that you have not submitted one of your original instrumentals.

CSOM great to hear all your covers.

Re: APRIL 2018 FSOTM - COLORS - INSTRUMENTAL

I do not usually post multiple songs but this project has been on the back boiler for ages. I recorded the song 2 years ago and have been struggling with material for the video but a chance comment from a friend about a some video clips I posted on Facebook of the normally dried up river beside my home suddenly running with water gave me the idea to finish it. Only completed and uploaded this evening.

For the COLOURS category: Blood Red River.

Re: APRIL 2018 FSOTM - COLORS - INSTRUMENTAL

I forgot I recorded this ... the instrumental "Blue Bossa", which is kinda like some noodling on guitar, added the lead bits in today with my old Jazz guitar. It's a bit scrappy (my lead is way out of practice!!!), but hopefully sounds ok:

Re: APRIL 2018 FSOTM - COLORS - INSTRUMENTAL

Unfortunately the water noise is a little overpowering but by using headphones I was able to pick up the guitar work more clearly and you played that piece well. Good job.

Re: APRIL 2018 FSOTM - COLORS - INSTRUMENTAL

Wow, I have been absent due to being busy busy busy with other stuff  but so awesome to see all covers, you all rock!  I have managed to pop in from time to time and have a listen to a couple of covers at a time until I got through them all.  I thought I would comment all at once after I had listened to them all.

Neo .........what can I say!  You once again covered so many, you amaze me.  I always look forward to seeing what scenic background you are going to perform from big_smile and I really liked the stream running behind as you sang and the kids playing in it.  I noticed the slight variations on the filming eg Mellow Yellow had a slight yellow hue to it smile  You once again made it look all very relaxing as you cruised through all the covers you covered.  I thought your last one, 'Blues Bossa' with the lead guitar really added to it, hope to see you bring that out more in some of your other covers smile

Roger ... your 'Black is the Colour' cover was just lovely and almost haunting sound to it, really enjoyed it.  'Going Home' wow! that baritone ukulele was just great on it.  I don`t own a baritone but I could never make it talk like you made it.  Awesome instrumental by you.  'Blood Red River', I have never heard that before but what I  heard from your cover was great and I liked the video you put together with it.

arkady ......... I am thrilled to see you participating in here as I said before smile  'Greensleeves plus' , that was so good, it was really relaxing to listen too.  Thoroughly enjoyed it.  'She Moves Through the Fair' I actually don`t know that one but it was great and I loved that drumming, the beat of the drums just really caught my ear.  P.S. I hope you continue to bring your covers or originals to FSOTM for us.  Even if its not advertised as instrumental as such, any instrumental to whatever the song is that month is still a cover whether its singing or instrumental smile

I hope I got everyone and haven't missed anyone or any song.  I also hope I get a chance to do one but just so much  on at the moment for me ... fingers and toes crossed that I can get one done.

Thanks - the problem with having a single mic is ... there is no mixing, which is both good and bad ... but thatnks for the feedback!!!

Thanks Jan,

Going Home, like anything transferred to a baritone uke, is easy as the tuning is the same as guitar so there is no transposition to think about. smile Blood Red River is a song I do with the new band and the other singer, a lady, does a great harmony so I am going to record her vocals to my original recording and update it.
