Topic: Potatoes And Weet- Bix

Raised on potatoes and Weet-Bix.

Not much in-between.

Is a story worth telling.

Nothing flash  tin Spaghetti and Baked beans.

This river is not as shallow as it seems.

Put your foot in the water its more than it seems.

Re: Potatoes And Weet- Bix

Excuse the confusion...but aren't Weetabix a breakfast cereal?

I love my Weetabix with cold milk and sugar
I also love cornflakes the same way
Sometimes I mix both and eat them for supper
Disapproval and tut, tuts come my way

Sugar puffs, frosties, Quaker oats and rice crispys
Make my mouth water at the thought
Farley's rusks for a flash back
And shredded wheet for the sport

Re: Potatoes And Weet- Bix

Cheers Phill our Weet- Bix is a breakfast biscuit similar to your Weetabix in the UK but slightly different.  I will attach a short video below with some of our top team known as All Black' rugby players their jersey colour not their skin talking about Weet- Bix .

When I was a young man.

The worms in my stomach were always hungry.

My mum always has porridge for breakfast.

Now she is 100 years young it is still the same.

After porridge could be toast and marmalade or jam plus a brew of tea.

My friends had vegemite or marmite and also so did my gran.

Sometimes it would be eggs or spaghetti or bake beans on toast.

Then my worms would cry out Weet- Bix with milk and sugar and a splash of boiling water.

Now I am older my breakfast are small but still the same things plus cornflakes or rice bubbles among other things.

Every now and then my favourite left over stew or the bolognas mince from last night on toast.

Now we are retired breakfast is quiet often the time-of-day Maree and I talk the most.

You swine....I had a big smile on my face and a tear in my eye towards the end. What a fabulous bunch of guys they are! Personally I love banana with my Weetabix, as well as corn flakes ice cold milk and sugar.
Your poem reminded me of the good old days; post war shortages which meant no sugar, cheese and butter was handed out free due to surpluses after the war. I was encouraged to eat cheese by my family saying "it's American cheese" no wonder I'm so over weight!

Cod liver oil tablet every night before bed
Weetabix or cornflakes or tea and white bread
That's breakfast each morning, short trousers and cap
Then meet my mates and walk to school
Can anything be better than that?

Re: Potatoes And Weet- Bix

I have coffee with a little creamer
starts me up to be a dreamer
no time for lunch usually in a rush
maybe an apple if it's lush
Dinner now that's a different story
lots on my menu -go for glory
steaks and chicken so finger lickin'
pasta and salad that's really kickin'
a glass of beer or some Crown that's fine
sometimes it's chard from the vine
nothing fancy, nothing special to see
but it's tasty, and just perfect for me

Re: Potatoes And Weet- Bix

Phill and Jim that is brilliant how you can turn a subject into words that flow. I love seeing words play out on replies to different posts. Food is a big part  of all cultures when I have been travelling. Our different experiences with food I find it to be very interesting.

Culture, race, and ethnicity.

One person's normal may seem to another eccentricity.

In my travels I love the place food plays.

My nana always had love on a plate.

Different dishes made to make people feel great.

Hospitality and food a great way to show love not hate.
