Sure, Jandle. I'll update it a little later today when I have a bit more time.

And I'm going to try to record something for March now that it's April to average out my prior error.

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

Here it is:

All’s not fair (in Love and War) Richard Mortimer

intro -E- with 4th and 5th strings hammered on rhythmically

[A/]Daylight shatters jaded reality, [A/]someone somewhere holds the[E] key

[A/]Grass reeds rustle in the breeze, [A/]speaking their language to the [E]trees

[D]In another [E]far off land, [D]someone holds a [E]club, [D]an act of war? [E]an act of love?

[D]all's not fair[Dsus4] [D6], in love and [E]war

[A/]Stick creatures disguise themselves, [A/]making it clear they don't want to be [E]seen

[A/]Butterflies flutter by wistfully, [A/]sunshine falling down upon their [E]wings

[D]In another [E]far off land, [D]someone holds a [E]axe, [D]an act of war? [E]an act of love?

[D]all's not fair[Dsus4] [D6], in love and [E]war

[A/]Birds sing out so cheerfully, [A/]they know they are where they want to[E] be

[A/]take their lives from day to day, [A/]build a nest if then they want to[E] stay

[D]In another [E]far off land, [D]someone hold[E]s a knife, an act of war? an act of love?

[D]all's not fair[Dsus4] [D6], in love and [E]war

Bridge 2x

[B ] [C@3] [D@5] [D@5] [D#@6] [E@7]

[A/]Primates chatter so ferociously, the [A/]only communication that they[E] need

[A/]The forrest is a comfortable home, [A/]giving them everything they [E]need

[D]In another [E]far off land, [D]someone holds a[E] gun, [D]an act of war? [E]an act of love?

[D]all's not fair[Dsus4] [D6], in love and [E]war

[A/]A generation lost in space, [A/]declares itself the intelligent(?) human[E] race

[A/]sometimes the truth is so plain to see, [A/]that it merely eludes you and[E] me

[D]In another far[E] off land, [D]not too far to [E]see, [D]A man let's go [E]of his fears, [D]concedes to san[E]ity, [D]who is the victim - you and[E] me, [D]victims of [E]society, [D]for without it we wouldn't n[E]eed to know

[D]all's not fair[Dsus4] [D6], in love and [E]war

A/ = play once, then fingerpick

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

Neo the solo and band version have come out good. Back in 95 sounds like you had a good band going then. Excellent hard hitting lyrics.

Easybeat  that is a good rock folk fusion sound you got going on there.

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

neophytte, firstly thanks for popping your song into this month, because this link doesn't close like the suggestion ones do smile  I had a listen again to both versions and I thought both were good but the band version really made this song pop!  It felt to me, at least in my humble opinion, that the song really suited having backing.

easybeat, thanks also for reposting your song here, cheers.  I had another listen today, its one of those songs, the more you listen to it, the more its grows on you.  I liked it the first time, but I noticed more the second time listening to it.  Definitely has a rock beat and I like it, had my foot tapping away to it.

Peatle, nice lyrics in there, cause it was about your own world and I liked that.  I think quite a few people are like that, more into country life than city life these days it seem.  That echo effect took me by surprise when you first started singing and playing, I wasn't expecting that, so made it different again.  How did you do the echo effect?

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

Cheers Jandal. I had a spare hour this morning so I quickly put that together. I didn't quiet get it the way I wanted to do the vocal and guitar but decided just to go with it.  I double tracked the vocals.  I tried to get Maree to do a backing vocal but she wasn't impressed with what I had written. So I decided to do my own backing vocal as I was determined to put something up no matter what.. I should have sung the backing vocal a bit different at the start  as it has come out too much like an echo. Being recorded on my laptop and backing vocal on my cellphone means the sound qualities not that great but hopefully it entertains people for a one of listen and watch..     Main vocal and guitar live backing vocal added.

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

I had to put it up again my April entry as in my rush to put it up I put the wrong version up and also the wrong title for my song. So here is the proper version sorry about that. The song is called My World For Chordie.

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

Peatle, I had another listen today and then went to compare the first version you put up but couldn't find it, maybe you have removed it? Anyway, I didn't see or hear a big difference in this version other than maybe the beginning of it when you started it? From memory, the first version I think you had more of a echo / stereo effect happening at the start?  Also this version looks a bit more like you have cut and put together versions? I am saying that cause I could see Maree still walking past in it like I could in the first version.  So its a bit hard to tell as I couldn't compare it to the first version smile  Anyway, well done once again, its great to see you participating and I like the idea of the echo / stereo effect happening in it.  I like to see people trying different idea`s like that smile

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

I am still trying to find a song to perform for this month, having a bit of trouble finding one that suits me to be honest hmm , anyway still looking for something and will post one when I find something I like.

I did find this though one though 'Crazy World'  which I did 7 years ago, the first song I ever performed on soundcloud and it was one easybeat had written the lyrics to and I put chords to it and performed.  Going down memory lane now.  https://soundcloud.com/ukulelejan/crazy-worldmp3

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

Jandal you did easybeat's song real good those seven years have gone quick.

In reply to your question about about my video . The first one I put up I inadvertently  used the same song title as easybeats  submission for this month so I had to change the text at the beginning.  Because of that I had two copies on file and ended up putting up the wrong one up with  the wrong title in my rush to get it on youtube and chordie.. It is same video apart from the text  as the first one and also in my rush somehow I had edited out part of the song on the first one I put up so a few lines of the song had got left. out .   Thank you Jandal for taking the time  to have a good listen and watch.  I try to make each song as different as pos though my poor playing and vocal skills can make my efforts not always a great listen.

Thanks; that wasn't a band in '95, I recorded the track on an 8 track recorder (Tascam 488), then hired a studio to record the drummer from my old band ...

Thank you; I've noticed a lot of my old songs, particularly those with distortion or guitar riffs, don't transfer well to acoustic interpretation, this one isn't too bad in that respect, though, and I really appreciate your (and everybodys!) input - it's always interesting to hear different opinions about what works and doesn't work, and hear different perspectives about the music!

Sorry, commented on each track on the external sites, but not here:

I like this song; it has a good rocky beat and the lyrics fit in well - the vocals add to the effect of 'all about keeping my spirits up', while sounding monotone and down; it reminded me somewhat of a song that Dylan would write and perform. Keep it up!!

Our (boy) cat is called Joy!!

This song really suited both the uke and your voice - and my only complaint would be it feels like it could go for a bridge and then another verse ...

Yes, I also noticed you'd edited a bit more than the title, didn't see your wife walk past, and some of the vocal lines were a bit different (going from memory!!) - but I did like the content of 'my world' as you've written it; we all seem to be reaching a common theme, which I think you've piqued quite well - "keep the crazies and politicians away, and let me live my life in harmony"!!

I always love the effort you put into the video editing too!! I'll draw some inspiration from that ...

Cheers

Richard (better get back to work now!!) smile

No worries - I think everyone has a unique voice; it's just working out what songs suit your voice ... I couldn't imagine you (or me!) doing a Mariah Carey song, for example, but Louis Armstrong type version of What a wonderful world could be done ...

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

Cheers Neo thank you for your good feedback. That  8 track recorder (Tascam 488) looked like a clever piece of kit. looking at the picture I assume it recorded onto a cassette tape.????Your end product with addition of studio drums is a  perfect real sharp  recording of top quality standard..

Thankyou Peatle, it is still a song I like today.  There are certain original songs I have done for some of you here on Chordie and that is one of them that I still like and still sing and play occasionally.  Yes, you heard or read me correctly, I do actually get those certain songs out from time to time, dust them off and play them smile

easybeat, vocally, you really, really suit country in my humble opinion.  I think you have the perfect voice for it.   Guitar wise, you can play pretty much anything and are great at it, you own that guitar, seriously!

Re: APRIL 2022 - THE WORLD

I added a video for "All's not fair", which is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d-Plzd5RIs

It wasn't as successful as I would have liked; getting the video to match the guitar parts was hard (and having my 7yo doing the videoing was possibly not the best move), but I've put it up, warts and all ....
