Topic: Morning Stroll

Morning Stroll

I read a secret message
While on my morning stroll
I wasn’t concentrating
As my mind began to roll

Looking all around me
At the sights of everyday
I found secret messages
In a hidden sort of way

A tree shaped like an arrow
Seemed to point me down a path
Past a beat-up signpost
Overdue for a bath

Then on through a tunnel
Made by trees together grown
Branches weaved while growing
Like a carpet that was sewn

Sloping down and curving round
The corner then the bend
Leading me into a place
A leaf blown by the wind

I walked on hesitantly
Unsure what may lay ahead
My mind did also wander
Full of wonder and of dread

Ivy-covered stone walls
And some stairs curling around
Moss upon each step I took
That rose out of the ground

Higher and still higher
I climbed out of the gloom
Opening back up again
A garden without a bloom

A gate upon the other side
Was open just a crack
Looking through the gate I saw
The way to lead me back

Back into the world, I left
A minute or two before
I strolled into that open gate
Eager for something more

Re: Morning Stroll

Brilliant Jeff continuing the conspiracy theme. I found myself reading every word carefully yet eager to find the resolution at the end. It didn't disappoint. Well done, very lyrical and entertaining. I wonder if we'll get some more...I hope so.

Re: Morning Stroll

Thanks, Phill - Some more will come, some writings, poems, and songs alike, but this poem is done.

Re: Morning Stroll

I understand that Jeff, I was asking if some of our other wordsmiths could offer some insights into this subject? I must say on another reading your imagery is fascinating and brings to light sights we take for granted and reminds me of a stroll I took with a young lady 50 or so years ago down, or up a beautiful privet hedged lane on a warm sunny summer's day, ah the innocence of youth! It would be nice to return to my teens but not that young lady.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Morning Stroll

Ah yes - I hope other of our chordie writers will write about this theme, or something similar. As you say, we all have our own experiences to draw from that could change the direction of the theme.

Re: Morning Stroll

She said "this is a secret, no one else need ever know"
I replied "of course not, to this to thee I vow"
So now to you I tell it, but you must promise this
Once you know this secret, it must never pass your lips

Yet I wonder can I trust you?
On your honour swear a tryst
May the green grass and the blue sky
Keep our fumbling safe within.

We strolled along a tree lined road
No wider than a cart
Her beauty put the day to shame
To her I gave my heart

Soon longing overcame us
And I swear upon the stars
Undressing there before me
We shared the chocolate bar.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

"Undressing there before me
We shared the chocolate bar."

I must confess, I did not see that coming...but now I want a chocolate bar.

Jeff that is brilliant what you have got going on this post. Happy New Year everyone.

We rode on push bikes down to Waikanae Beach.

Sat on a bench in the sand dunes.

Watching the waves and people in love hand in hand strolling on the sand.

No lovers embrace or holding hands for us.

Just an affirmation that we were true friends.

We will only be friends we said to each other.

Why ruin something good with romance we thought.

Riding our bikes amongst runners and strollers.

Some rich some poor and a couple of high rollers.

We moved onto a café sitting at our table without much talk.

Enjoying lunch after discussing our relationship completely scared conversation away.

Not knowing over forty years later a marriage and true love for each other wouldn’t go away.

A café and food for thought an uncomfortable memory of many years past.

A once terrified couple from years past thinking our relationship wouldn’t last.

Now sitting at a table at a café.

Waiting for our tea and hot scones to arrive.

We look at each other our souls purring loud like contented cats.

Re: Morning Stroll

Jeff that was a fantastic piece of writing and I could honestly see that in a poetry book with all the drawings to go with it.  A mixture of enchanted, mystical, mystery feel to it.  Excellent, had me reading it word for word, wondering where it was taking us the readers too.  Brilliant.

Re: Morning Stroll

Nicely done to Phill, that last bit "Undressing there before me, we shared the chocolate bar" that was clever, I wasn't expecting that lol big_smile

Peatle,  Waikanae Beach, a great beach.  So neat the story of meeting in friendship then becoming married and of the feelings as young people verses now older and wiser.  Nicely written.  Could picture it well with your writing.

Re: Morning Stroll

I sat on the beach, enjoying the sun,
Watching people, their coming and going.
Some lay on towels or sat in their chairs,
Reading books or sound asleep, I could hear their snores.
Some people ran across the hot sand,
Jumping and leaping as it burnt their feet
Running to the water, ready to dive deep.
Some were afloat bobbing up and down,
Some were diving and jumping enjoying the waves
Others out on surfboards, boogieboards with flippers,
Motorboats pulling water skier’s and some yachts were afloat.
A gentle breeze cools the hot air, a dog barks at its master to throw the stick again.
Parents arrived with children and babies in tow,
Armed with buckets, spades and floating toys to keep the kids afloat.
Surf lifeguards in their yellow and red,
Strutt their stuff as they eye the sea.
More than a few sunburnt bodies are seen everywhere,
Flesh getting flashed in bikini`s, togs and shorts,
Some to admire, some not so …
Lol life is good as I take all of this in,
Relaxing on holiday, I am truly in Bliss.
