Topic: ABOUT SONGS: COVER BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL.

While discussing about covers I got this idea. There are a lot of covers better than the original.
A sort of list:
- WITHOUT YOU by HARRY NILSSON. This is a cover of a mediocre hit or song written and performed by BADFINGER.
- ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER by JIMI HENDRIX better than BOB DYLAN who wrote and performed that song too. JIMI lifts the song at least 10 floors higher.
- A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS by JOE COCKER but written and sung by THE BEATLES. WHO CAN FORGET THAT SCREAM lasting almost an eternity on stage in WOODSTOCK.
- ME AND BOBBY MCGEE (WHO IS THAT MAN, Bobby McGee)?? by JANIS JOPLIN written and performed by KRIS KRISTOFFERSON. (that was also a great version)
- WILD THING by THE TROGGS written and performed by CHIP TAYLOR (an uncle of Angelina JOLIE, brother of the actor John Voight)

Some covers are worse but successful like again:
- WITHOUT YOU but now performed by Mariah Carey STERILE, VOICE IS TOO MUCH VIBRATING.
- STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN by DOLLY PARTON and of course written & performed by LED ZEPPELIN
- MY GENERATION by HILLARY DUFF written & performed by THE WHO
- I LOVE ROCK 'N ROLL by "hold tight" BRITNEY SPEARS. Joan Jet

- MY GUITAR PLAYS EVERY STYLE = BLUES, ROCK, METAL, so I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY IT.

Re: ABOUT SONGS: COVER BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL.

Zepplin covered a ton of blues standards, and they were all completely awesome.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Negative.  Kris Kristoferson wrote Bobby McGee, but it was about the receptionist at Sun Records where (at the time) Kris Kristoferson was a janitor.  Her name, not surprisingly, was Bobby McGee.

"Black Magic Woman" written by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac.
However, Santana's version is incredible.

"I Will Always Love You" written by Dolly Parton.
However, Whitney Houston's version is incredible.

Re: ABOUT SONGS: COVER BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL.

Eva Cassidy's version of "Fields of Gold" is far superior to Sting's.

Her "Over The Rainbow" knocks the sox off Judy Garland's original.

I recently heard her version of "Time After Time" and that was also very good...she's fantastic
