Re: Resonator (prob spelt wrong!)

Hi Wil ..A Resonator guitar has a metal cone made of Aluminium to project the sound
Best known  is the National style "O" used  by Mark knopfler as shown on the
cover of I think "Brothers in Arms" The body is also made of Ally.  This type
of guitar was first made back in the late 1920,s Also Dobro also make fine Resonators
Makes for fine slide playing too.... hope that helps a bit ...sure the folks here will
have some more information   .... cheers Mark smile

Re: Resonator (prob spelt wrong!)

i have always wanted one.
this one to be exact http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkk3jP9HqN0

fender makes a terrible looking resonator (in my opinion) i dont know how it sounds but the the sound wholes are in the shape of the fender logo. ugly stuff.

somebody correct me  if im wrong, but they are use in open tuning right?

Woodwose your link leads to youtube but not to any resonator could you find the vid and copy and paste the link?  and you can use open tunning and play it like a slide smile

Re: Resonator (prob spelt wrong!)

sorry, its fixed now
i had 2 youtubes open, i copied the wrong one.

...carry on like it never happened...

anyways, looking at it again, that is a bad idea of what a resonator sounds like....it is missing the key part, the resonator. it is just a guitar with a brass top...its still sweet though.

Re: Resonator (prob spelt wrong!)

And it's not just a Blues / Americana instrument. Check out this cut of the the Kesh / Swaggering jig straight out of the Irish cannon. It's a tenor resonator he's playing.
