Topic: Traveling and jam sessions/open mic locations

Wanting to do some traveling from Ohio toward either Nashville or Virginia Beach.   Anything within an 8-10 hour trek one way...stay a few and return.  I call this fishing expeditions without the poles......  lol

Does anyone have any tips on how to find locations that welcome pickers/singers as in jam sessions/open mic night or even bands that welcome people to get up and try a few songs?

The intent is to make new friends and find like minded musicians/singers.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.   Thanks!

Hi Gabby

Coming from Surrey in the UK I have no idea unless you can make the Irish Club in Crawley, but the thought of an 8 - 10 week trek to Nashville sounds great so can I come with you? wink

Re: Traveling and jam sessions/open mic locations

I googled "open mic" plus the city I wanted to visit and up came all locations, times and addresses of places that had them.

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?

Re: Traveling and jam sessions/open mic locations

I'm coming up with blanks.   It's hard to find places that are having them, but not advertising them.   sad    Thanks for the suggestion tubatooter.  It was worth a shot.  Some of them are not updating their sites either.

Re: Traveling and jam sessions/open mic locations

Hey Gabby, Couldn't help but notice the suggestion box is nearly empty for exception
of toots' idea which is a good one. Might I suggest to google various bluegrass
events or "old time fiddler contests" as Wieser Idaho has each year. Born and raised
in Ohio but relocated in 1980 I haven't a clue of any happenings there now, sorry!

I know for sure that you will meet friendly people that would give you lots of advice
for open mic venues that you might check out at a later time not to mention a load
of fun playin and singin!   Good luck, Mike

Thanks Mike, wonderful suggestion.  I'll give that a try.
