Re: My latest toy...

Cool - a uke w/ a cut away. What's the make / model?

Rule No. 1 - If it sounds good - it is good!

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: My latest toy...

Re: My latest toy...

Good find, NELA.  Jerome probably only wears those shoes on weekends.

Re: My latest toy...

That is a Kala KA-STE-C Spruce Top Tenor Uke.

http://www.kalaukulele.com/detail.asp?p … d=KA-STE-C

The pickup is a Shadow Nanoflex piezo, and it sits under the bridge.

The shoes (and the hand) belong to Carol, the future Mrs. O'Neil.  I bought the uke in Oahu just before we went to the airport to come back to Kauai, and that's where we took that picture.   She thought it needed something to add perspective, hence the hand.

Sadly, I can't find strapless pumps that fit me.   wink

It sounds absolutely delicious.   Uke tuning is flat out bizarre, though, so I'm taking it slow to learn the scales and chord positions.

I'm working up some kind of "Hawaiian Banjo" joke but I'm not quite there yet.  Something about the uke player needing fewer strings....  big_smile

Re: My latest toy...

Nice uke Jerome!
To speed up the learning of chords & scales and understand that "bizarre tuning".
I'd like to share with all interested a simple piece of info that, for most guitar players,is like turning on a light switch when it comes to learning to play a uke.
If you place a capo on your guitar at the fifth frett and only use the 1st,2nd,3rd & 4th strings, you have a uke tuning, A E C G. So, all movable shapes and scales you might use on a guitar capoed on the fifth, using only those 4 strings, can be applied to the uke.
I hope I explaned it right, and I hope it helps

That's no Uke that's a baby guitar!

Re: My latest toy...

I used to not think much about ukes until I saw a guy play lead on one at the Funky Blues Shack in Destin a couple of months ago.  He and the rest of the band were awesome, and I have a new respect for the instrument.  Congrats on yours, even if those aren't your shoes:)
