If i can pull it off (kinda), than i know you can do it. Just make it your own. Your voice is strong, you got this!

Re: A good "Daddy" song?

How about, "Oh Daddy" by Fleetwood Mac?  I've read that, when Christine McVie sang it onstage alone, the men in the group could be seen wiping tears out of their eyes offstage.

Hey Amy:  I was messing around and heard this song and decided to take a stab playing and recording it in my own limited way!  I then read this thread about you wanting a song for your dad and I thought this might be a good one.  After recording it, I thought to myself that I could hear you singing this with alot of emotion and I think that is what you are trying to portray is how much he has meant to you.  Hope you like it!

I think I could totally pull this one off in a week, I may just have to try it out!  Thank you for sharing!  smile
I do think I'll keep learning the "Leader of the Band" though too.  I have a LOT of songs to work on now.  Here I was in a slump, but no more.

Printed... and going to give it a try or two.  I'll have to "make it my own" for sure cuz I can't do those deep lows!  smile  I did get a shiner once, and my dad was pretty proud of me for kicking that girls butt, although he never did say it, because it was "against the rules".  LOL!

Mekidsmom, I always liked Reba's Greatest Man I Ever Knew.   It's rather slow, but poignant.    Also, I just thought of Randy Travis's ..I Thought He Walked On Water.

Neil Young- Old Man
Vince Gill- Go Rest High on That Mountain

and I second topdown's suggestion;

Dan Fogleberg- Leader of the Band

Give everything but up.

Re: A good "Daddy" song?

John McCutcheon wrote one.  Let me see if I can find it.  It's great.

Re: A good "Daddy" song?

I couldn't find the one I was looking for.  It was about his Dad coming home off the road on Friday night with a bouquet of roses and glint in his eye, taking his Mom to dinner, basically a real cool song praising his Dad for being an "everyman" sort of hero.

But I did find "Dad's Got That Look", which I performed for my own father-in-law on the event of his 70th birthday, about two months before he passed.

It's in C and has kind of a cajun beat.

Hey Amy!  Yep, that is exactly what I was playing!  Good Luck, I think it is a great song and would do what you want!
