Re: What's(who's) your inspiration for playing.

my inspiration for playing was my cousin. my sister had just got a guitar and my cousin came round and played a time for heroes(libertines) and i really wanted to play it just like him.

when i actually started learning guitar(i taught myself) i realised lots of the chords in that song were barre chords and so i couldnt play it straight away (or soonish) but i stuck with it and now i can play that song and tons of others.

well thats about it

Re: What's(who's) your inspiration for playing.

My inspiration for playing was an old neighbour of mine called Jim, he was a retired forestry worker. He used sit in his flat most of the day playing the blues, he always had the door open so I could hear him playing, he gave me quite a few cds ie. Peter Green and the Splinter Group, Little Feat etc. He had a good collection of Guitars and when he left to go and live with his daughter in Hampshire he gave me a Yamaha 12 string as a present on the understanding I'd learn to play it. I've been learning for about a year now and mix practice with playing a few tunes I've learnt, I play every day, I even get up early to play Guitar before I go to work which puts me in a good frame of mind. I've got 3 Guitars now, they're only cheap ones but they play well, I'm building my own collection and am about to buy an electric guitar which should be fun.

So big thanks to Jim for inspiring me.

Hope everyones having fun

to tell the truth, I don't know. It all started in 73-74 and in 1973 I went to university for 7 years, the time needed here to become a medical doctor. The band my brother (2 years younger) and I did start up, has got a lot of succes in our country (BELGIUM). To be honest I played on a cheap acoustic guitar, BUT with an electric pick-up, and my younger brother (tried at least) played more lead and even more solo(for what it's worth). I had to give up playing because of the university, but I did money aside to purchase in 1978 my first more decent guitar, an acoustic yamaha, cost: 300$. I am convinced that I was influenced, certainly by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, together with Creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple too, because at that time they were, still are, my heroes. So I just can't put them in a ranking system: CCR CSN&Y Deep Purple. It was also the beginning of glamrock, hardrock (t-rex, bowie, led zeppelin)

Hey Gitaardocphil I had the the chance to see Crosby,Stills and Nash at Woodstock 94'.What a thrill it was standing on the side of a hill when they sang Wooden Ships. They are truly great misicians.I have all their albums on cd and play frequently.there will never be another music era like the 60's and 70's.

take care....Badeye.

so I would say Thin Lizzy as a whole were my inspiration to play guitar.

Re: What's(who's) your inspiration for playing.

Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot, Jose Feliciano, Joan Baez. I play piano too, but I always liked guitar better with voice.
And chord voicings are nicer on guitar.

Re: What's(who's) your inspiration for playing.

good question! honestly i dont think i am entirly sure... i think there must be a mix of a few things that inspired me to play, i guess that just seeing my fav bands play and seeing that they have gone out and made a name for themselves made me want to pick up the guitar in the first place and it really just helps me to stick at it. so i think it would be a mix of seeing them play at shows and also if it werent for my cousin chris, i probly wouldnt be playing now! so yer, mainly those two things inspired me to start playing and just inspire me in every day life too.
