Topic: Build your own Martin

I was browsing around the net looking at different guitars and luthier supplies and found that you can purchase a kit made by Martin to build your own guitar. I've seen kit guitars before but never one from a major player like Martin. It looks like it would be fairly easy to assemble if you have some woodworking skills. Check it out http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ … guitar-kit   I had no idea that MusiciansFriend  even had kits let alone a kit from Martin. Pretty cool.

Re: Build your own Martin

That would be really cool to try, but for $400 bucks I could go buy a nice guitar.

Re: Build your own Martin

400 is a lot of money to take a chance on screwing up.If there were a cheap kit to try on first that would be good.

Re: Build your own Martin

A martin guitar kit sounds like a great retirement project, - only a few more years to go. I enjoy working with wood and have all the equipment needed for such a project. Thanks for the info bswyers. My wife likes the idea as it will keep me from disappearing into woods on our mountains for days at a time.

Re: Build your own Martin

If you want to try it on something smaller/less expensive then check out the uke kits at Stewart McDonald.  I built a baritone from one of their kits and it turned out real nice. I have plans to build my own 14 fret om (Redwood top with Taz Blackwood back and sides & ebony bindings).

Re: Build your own Martin

Boy that would be lovely to do but I just know what mine would turn out like. I'd be putting the strings on in a suit of armour!!
Think I'm with zguitar on this one.
