Topic: Songs to teach 12yr old

Gidday,
i wonder if anyone can help.
My friends kid got a guitar for xmas,i said i`d show them some chords ect.
as i`m mid fifties  needless to say i`m not onto it when it comes to current chart stuff.
any easy well known songs you can recommend?I could go the folk song way,but i really want to
grab this kids attention enough to get her going  to take it further.

Real simple but catchy tune... Under the vid in the second link you'll fine I tutorial I made for it. My oldest son just turned 13 and this was one of the first tunes I taught him...  He loves it.

Teach her 12 bar blues. Seriously. With that, she can do virtually any pop song, with mnor variation. Just the chords, mind. Start with key of C - kids have high voices.

You could do worse than work your way through the Oasis song book. Good songs and not that difficult to play.

If you would like I can scan the first few lessons my boy had last year. He was 10 when he started.

Ask her what she likes.   basic Dylan is cool. and some basic AC/DC.  A fun one is TNT and its easy.  (for fun  ask her to sit and watch   IT MIGHT GET LOUD. If you have not seen it, you will love it. here is a good clip from youtube.

Alot of Beatles songs are easy and most are known. I think you should get toghter with the kid and look around the site see what you can agree on.
