Topic: Question on recording

Trying to use Audacity software, Alesis USB Mixer and a Behringer USB C-1u Mic into a usb port in computer to record. I get a barley audable sound on playback. I think i need a different Mic. Pete i really like your sound and, would like to know what mic you are using into your mixer since we have the sameone except I got a 8usbfx. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.    b

Re: Question on recording

Bob, this is the mic system I have been using with my Alesis.

It may be a bit more expense than you are willing to go, but these mics seem to work great for me.  Good luck.  Oh, and I don't use any DAW software.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Question on recording

By using a USB mic, you eliminate the need for the mixer, but you also limit yourself to the one track you are using to record, as well as the A/D converter quality that is provided with the mic.   In the setup you've described, the mixer isn't doing anything for you.

Pete's setup allows him to track a guitar and vocal track simultaneously (two microphones) as well as  upgrade his A/D interface if he wants.

I don't prefer USB mics for exactly these reasons.

Re: Question on recording

Thanks guy's, Pete I have ordered the 990-991 mxl Condenser mics you are using.
Also have an RMA to return the usb mic, lesson learned there Jerome, thanks. To use your tag line, maybe someday I'll win this thing

Re: Question on recording

I just did a ton of recording with the MXL-990, and I still have no complaints.

For the $85 it will run, it's a great mic.
