Topic: Capos

Hi everybody,
I am planning on getting a capo here pretty soon. I was wondering if there was any brands or designs I should stay away from. Or, are they pretty much the same all the way across?

One size does not fit all. They are not the same.  You will get many answers here and then you can choose for yourself.  I like my Kyser, but there are many good ones on the market.

Love my Dunlop trigger capo. I clip it on the headstock when not in use.

I like the looks and size of the Shubb. But it won't clip on when not in use.

I have two, both are the Dunlop shown in z's post above. They get a lot of use, as my students often borrow them, and I would buy have any other make if I wanted another.

I have gone through a few. Thanks to my daughter. Get a clip on one. Not the little cheap cloth ones that is an overrated elastic band.I have had a Dunlop, a Sabine and even a First Act. As long as the spring stays tight, it will suffice

I have used a Kyser for many years it works well with the Strat neck there is one I would like to try but I don't know the name of the brand its a metal capo that I have seen on videos of some recording artists sort of curved smile

Thanks everybody, I ended up getting a G7th Nashville. For as long as I've had it (less then 24 hours) its been working good. Looking forward to experimenting... smile

I have a Kyser, Dunlap and G7th - All work well, but the G7th is the best IMO due to it's small size and ease of use. They are pricey, but G7th makes an awesome capo.

I had a G7th Nashville, it was cheaper than the Dunlop and it worked fine, but I did not like the operating grips pointing forward. I found it very awkward to use so I gave it away to an 8 year student, who loves it.

I have the G7th performance capo - it has no handle and is very unobtrusive - easy to finger around where other capos might get in the way

So what Capo  do you like for a 12 string? I have seen a coupple that have the different humps in them for the thinner strings.

I use a Dunlop 83CB for my 12 string, works well holding down all 12 strings

Another vote for the Dunlop trigger capo, shown in Z's post above. It will tend to pull the strings sideways a bit, which is eliminated if one holds the strings in place at the next fret where the capo is to be placed with the right hand, while putting the capo on with the left.
