Topic: Just bought a new (to me) Martin Custom Jumbo!

With all these chordians coming to town for chordiestock II, I figured it couldn't hurt to have another guitar around. I've been eying a local Guild that was quite a bit older and at the same time spying this ad for a custom Martin on AGF. Well, tonight I pulled the trigger on the Martin - she looks too good to pass up. I should get her in a week or so.

Apart from the brass fittings she looks a fine gal (I have a thing about yellow fittings smile). I am sure she will play just great. Happy NGD!!!

She is a pretty one for sure. Happy NGD!

Re: Just bought a new (to me) Martin Custom Jumbo!

Jeff, it looks like an OM18 or 00018 I'm not sure what it is , but I bet it is gonna sound killer. I hope to get my hands on it. Those small box Martins really get rockin with some fingerpicking. I wonder if it is long scale or short scale. The yellow tuners are Cool..............

Congrats and happy NGD. Any excuse to buy a new guitar is a good one especially when you are doing it for your fellow Chordians. LOL

Don't take life too seriously, you're not getting out alive anyway

Re: Just bought a new (to me) Martin Custom Jumbo!

Wayne - It's a J14 (fret) body size - 20" length, 16" lower bout width, 4-3/4" deep, total length 40-3/4" - Is that considered a small box? A dread is 20" x 15-5/8"x 4-7/8 x 40-1/2"

Seems like a Big Box to me! Everyone will get a chance to play her in February!

Re: Just bought a new (to me) Martin Custom Jumbo!

Jeff ,
I believe the body size is the same as a 000028 or M-36 and M-38 . Steve Earle has a model M-21. They aren't as deep as a dread but have the Jumbo size . If this is what it is , I have played 000028H and M-36 martins that are the perfect size. They are big yet they aren't uncomfortable to play like a dread. You scored a good one.

Re: Just bought a new (to me) Martin Custom Jumbo!

Jeff,

I am pretty sure it is a long scale also = 25 1/4''  I believe all the J series are long scale and also OM series are long scale. The 000 series are short scales 24 3/4''. Long scales are supposed to have a little more volume. That is a good looking big guitar smile

Re: Just bought a new (to me) Martin Custom Jumbo!

Thanks everyone - but it's not NGD until it shows up on my door. And no mail tomorrow, so I've got to wait an extra day!

The scale (per the build sheet) is 25.4". Here is a Martin size comparison chart. The J14 is a big guitar, but I'm a pretty big guy, so i don't expect it to be a problem.

Wow!  That baby should be a real boomer.  Great looking guitar. Unlike Roger, I like the the look of gold tuners and wish I had them on my 000-16SRGT.

I have silver tuners on my D-35  and gold on my D-41. I like the gold myself. You have one beautiful guitar. Congrats.

Gold tuners set it off nicely.  I like them also

Tuner shmuner.  It's going to sound AWESOME.  And loud.  Which is pretty much the same thing.  I'm eager to get my hands on it.  I may need to bring my Guild for a contest of the Boomers.

So I received confirmation the guitar has been delivered to my house. Yet here I am in Amelia Island, 250 miles away. The power of feminine pursuasion (is a nice way of saying it). I told my son to bring it in the house, but DO NOT open the case!
