Feels dumb to be so excited

As a former bass player, passing lines from one chord to the next was a primary function.  So, why don't I do it on guitar so much?  Well, because I'm not a very good guitar player I suppose.  I've always approached the guitar as an escape.  It's something I do when I don't want to work at something, and so my playing isn't real great.  Great playing takes a lot of work.  Well, now I'm getting a bit dissatisfied with the usual, and so I decided to start trying to work in some solos and licks to spice up the songs I normally just bang out straight through without breaks. 

One song I've been banging out has been "Wild World" by Cat Stevens.  In that song, there's a crucial run down from F to G.  On a bass - piece of cake.  Done it a million times.  Shoot, when I played harmonica it was even a simple thing.  On a guitar - somehow I felt overwhelmed and uncertain.  This morning, I finally slowed down, convinced myself to give it a try, and bingo!  I worked out a way to pass down from F to G.  I'll have to do it 1,000 times to get it ingrained enough to do while playing through the song, but I worked it out. 

So, I'm kind of proud of myself, even though I feel kind of dumb being proud of myself for something so basic.  Nevertheless, in a journey of 1,000 miles you're sure to burn some bridges before the eggs are all in one basket.
