In my opinion i think that The beatles have got to be the best band ever..... I mean like they are the most onfluential and most fantastic song writing people ever!!!!!! Songs like a hard days night are top and still sung today by lads and girls alike. They live on forever!

I like Bob Dylan too, and ive also gotten into Bright Eyes a little. I hold the White Stripes high aswell. Id also like to add anyone who takes a guiar and sings along with it anywhere.
Also someone names "Rick West" He is local though.

I would have to agree with the guy who said The Beatles, not only are the lyrics pure genius no other band has shaped the face of our planet like they have.
Although to me Black Sabbath is a close second and HIGHLY under rated. They are the fathers of the metal sound.
i dont like the beatles at all,. never have,.. but maybe beause i havent heard more of them../

Grateful Dead. 30+ years as one on the most influencial and musically diverse bands in a rock forum. I used to despise them because I played in a band with a bunch of guys who crammed their music down my throat constantly. Now that I'm away from those guys and can listen to their music on my own terms, I find them to be spectacular!
The old stand-bys are Zep and the Beatles. But for newer stuff today. . . WIDESPREAD PANIC. I've been to 20-some shows and I'll hopefully see another 20-some! Best live band I have ever seen. Anyone else here like Panic?
The beatles man are legends!!!!!!!! i am only 17 and i love their music and all my m8s do and we always play gigs doin the classics and i odnt know one person who doesnt know a beatles song. they shaped the world tremendosly, and a;ways will.... plus they are the most influential band of all time!!!

because there are some great ones out there

I have to agree that the Beatles are one of the greastest bands of all time. But I also think it's funny that no one has posted a band that pre-dates 1960. Has anyone heard of Count Basie? And I'm surprised no one's mention Elvis Presley, the first king of rock.
Elvis was just the original "American Idol." No musical ability aside from the voice he used to sing songs other people had written. As for the Count, he is great, but what about Miles Davis?
I'm more of a Dave Brubeck fan myself (I'm listening to Take Five right now). And while I agree with you that Elvis wasn't a talented musician or songwriter, but he was crazy enough (or oblivious enough) to go on stage and do stuff that in his time was considered obscene and dangerous (I wonder what they would think of MTV?) and in doing so opened the door for people like Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis (who was actually Elvis' second cousin). So, in that light he is kind of the "king".

It's Pink Floyd for me. The most stunning piece of live music I heard was Barclay James Harvest, Mocking Bird, at Weeley festival,England in the early 70's.
