Topic: singer songwriter needs advice

I have been playing guitar for 3 months & have written my own songs. I am teaching myself but am not getting too far. I have written approx 15 songs that have guitar chords to them. I feel that i cant move on as i dont know all the chords & dont want my songs to start sounding to similar to the last. I'm only playing so that i dont have to sing without music at open mike. Although i do enjoy playing i feel that i will never be a proper guitarist, the singing & songwriting is me. I'm trying to explore more chords it's just not happening, shall i get a guitarist to play so i can concentate on my bit & then just play & practice when the guitarist is not about????

The old saying "practice makes perfect" is a very true one .Dont quit playing Lots of people can carry a tune however only a few individuals can play a tune>I think that a musician is more then just vocals and words. They are more credible when they can play an instument. Some people just ooze talent ..that person is you!!!

PS I thought that I had already replied to you but I cant seem to find it ,,Lost in cyber space...

Playing for 3 months? Man , at 3 months I was ready to wrap the stupid thing around a tree ! Keep practising ,you'll get there . You may never be a guitar god ,but you'll get there. Press on .Good luck

A five yr old could understand this. Somebody fetch a five yr old !

Re: singer songwriter needs advice

do you get lessons mate? ive been playing for around a year and a bit and i dont feel any progression and i dont get lessons. so i advise you to get some lessons also heres a good site to go on www.ocmusic.com theres a page on there about modes, what i do is play one mode around 20times each day for a week, then by the end of the week im perfect at it and can do loads of inprov stuff with it. and for chords: get a metronome and set it to a slow speed and with each tic change chord, then make it faster and faster till you can change in a blink of an eye.

hope some of that helps.
