Topic: Songs that make you want to turn up the volume

The SRV/Jimi thread got me thinking.  Whether you're playing it yourself or hearing it on the radio, what are some songs that make you automatically reach for the volume knob?

Some I humbly submit for consideration:
Jimi Hendrix - Crosstown Traffic

Stones - Honky Tonk Women

Counting Crows - Hangin' Around

SRV - pretty much anything, but Taxman and Texas Flood are way up there

Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride

The Who - Magic Bus (well you caaaaaaaaaaan't have it)

Blood, Sweat & Tears - Spinning Wheel and And When I Die (I'd swear there ain't no heaven, but I pray there ain't no Hell)

ABBA - Dancing Queen (just joking on this one)

I am mostly a country, bluegrass, sissified '70's folk-pop sort of guy, but when these songs come around the radio is going to get louder (excepting ABBA, in that case the station is going to be changed)

Re: Songs that make you want to turn up the volume

Ok Zurf, let's do a top ten again

Led Zeppelin                When the Levee Breaks
Hendrix                        Purple Haze
Slade                          Come on Feel the Noize
The Rolling Stones        Honky Tonk Women (I have to play along to this one)
TheWho                       Won't get Fooled Again
The Pogues                  Sally MacLennane (and this one)
The Beatles                  Revolution
Steve Earle                  Johnny Come Lately (features the Pogues)
Elton John                    Saturday Night's alright for Fighting
Queen                         Hammer to Fall

enjoy

David

Re: Songs that make you want to turn up the volume

Well that's just the thing.  None of those songs would show up on a "Top Ten" favorites for me.  My favorites are going to be more along the lines of "Just a Little Talk with Jesus" or "Coast of Marseilles."  But I'm going to turn up the volume on these anyway.  Odd.

Easy Zurf,

Songs you play, but you start with the volume to quiet. roll Duh!

Seriously though,

For me it's Peppermint Rag (because it doesn't come out loud enough for some reason) and Girls Girls Girls, because it just... sounds great.

Re: Songs that make you want to turn up the volume

Unfortunately my amp. is only aloud to be up to 1.5 on volume.

And it's a practice amp! mad
Not fair. But if I play acoustic there's no restrictions, because there's no amplification. I make that really loud. lol

You are so right, but when you put an album, and you listen, therre are a lot of ballads sounding 10 times better, I adore a few songs by PROCUL HARUM, in particular: HOMBURG, SALTY DOG.
Some QUO numbers, like roll over lay down: THE "AIR GUITAR" SONG, along with Down, Down, and Sweet Caroline.

Re: Songs that make you want to turn up the volume

I think mostly all music should be played loud, apart from folk songs, but even then, some of them should be played lou too.

But, a few to mention where I would insist getting played loud;

The Clash..............Koka Kola
Iron Maiden...........Run to the hills
The Jam...............Private Hell
the pogues...........sick bed of Cuchulainn
arctic monkeys.....fake tales of sanfransisco
aerosmith..............rag doll
red hot chili peppers....I want to party on your pussy
stiff little fingers..........Good for nothing ( which reminds me, i have not played this on my guitar for about a year, so i am going to go do that after this post)

And for a folk song in my house that will that shall get played loud
Flower of Scotland by the corries

I hope you are speaking for yourself when you say people in britain because I am in britain and I would disagree with you.

so you could rephrase your reply by saying "I dont read questios properly"

that way you are not insulting every person in britain.

Re: Songs that make you want to turn up the volume

Pmsl. Gon yersel, Ken.

If I had it my way every song would be played LOUD. Unfortunately most momen, my wife being one, have a strange intollerance to loud music in the house.

How can you listen to AC/DC quietly, or Feeder, or The Alarm. Not possible!

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

EXACTLY!!!!
ye jist canny!!

and if someone in the house does not want to hear then ye wear headphones, and have it loud enough that no other sound enters those tiny wee earhole than good music.
Earphones are good for people that suffer nagaritist in the home. wink
