Topic: Hondo guitars

Hey gang trying to find out some info on a Hondo H-715/wh. What year were these produced and does it have the DiMarzio pick-up? It's 7/8 scale with one humbucking pick-up and a volume & tone knobs. I'm loving it, it's a little screamer and quiet as a church mouse. Just wish I could find out more info on this particular model. I know some Hondos came with Grover tuners; this one did not, thought that may change.

Re: Hondo guitars

Hello, DanElectro ... and welcome to Chordie!

All I could find out about your Hondo is this little bit: … ge-guitar/

According to another source, Hondo were the first import guitars to use American-made DiMarzio pickups. They were produced in Japan between 1974 and 1983, before the company was bought out by J.B. Player. My Dad had a Hondo acoustic years ago (+20 years) and I recall that he gave it to a neighbor's kid who was taking lessons, but couldn't afford a decent guitar.

Looks like you've got yourself a piece of vintage history ... nice find!
