Topic: SADNESS REIGNING

We are constantly being bombarded with messaging designed to make us live beyond our means. The bait is always the promise of something more than we have now, as if some "product" could fill the emptiness of a human soul. I sometimes despair that so many are chasing this illusory satisfaction.

SADNESS REIGNING

They promised happy satisfaction
They promised a joyful reaction
They promised peaceful resolution
And completely failed to deliver.

CHORUS:     We are the willing deluded,
        We are the blindly excluded
Lab rats on a wheel we chase,
        Only to find sadness reigning.

Civil suit lawyers seed our need
They lay blame to feed their greed
For a generous cut he'll make 'em bleed
No matter how stupid, it's never my fault

CHORUS:     We are the willing deluded,
        We are the blindly excluded
Lab rats on a wheel we chase,
        Only to find sadness reigning.

The gal in the ad tried it and smiled
Like she'd just birthed her first born child
But it's only shampoo, and all it can do
Is make your hair clean at best.

CHORUS:     We are the willing deluded
        We are the blindly excluded
Lab rats on a wheel we chase
        Only to find sadness reigning.

We sing love to all, sing peace on earth
Recite sappy sentiments drunk in our mirth
Hoping to believe in our own self worth
But fear echoes in our hollow emptiness.

CHORUS:     We are the willing deluded,
        We are the blindly excluded
Lab rats on a wheel we chase,
        Only to find sadness reigning.

This is written / structured as song, but I think it's better read than sung.

Re: SADNESS REIGNING

Good poem TF. I'm reminded that, in my youth, I chased ladies and dreams- only to find sadness reigning.

Live in the "now" - a contentment of the moment - the past is gone - the future doesn't exist - all we ever really have is now and it's always "now".

Re: SADNESS REIGNING

TF really good, i know its written as a poem but with the use of chorus`s in there, i am guessing a song in the making?  Would be a good song smile

Nice one TF!

Art and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
What constitutes excellent music is in the ears of the listener.

Re: SADNESS REIGNING

this is a very pessimistic out look on life, but unfortunately so true. all the ads on TV make you think they're doing you a favour when all that's actually happening is us lining their pockets.

well written and the message comes through loud and clear.
i tried it, and it will work as a song.

Re: SADNESS REIGNING

I agree and would love to hear you do it in a song, TF. And yes, altogether too true. I saw a car ad where the car had a big bow on it as if it were a Christmas present. Of course the significant other loved it and cooed over it, and the gifter smiled as if he had done something wonderful, but I have mixed emotions about that, but can't "place" my feelings. I have done it before, and it made me feel good inside to watch her opening her presents, but what have I really done? The feeling was fleeting.

Please, if you will, favor us with this poem/song, TF. It's very meaningful.

Re: SADNESS REIGNING

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

And Phill ... I really appreciate your putting some chords to it. I stink at that as I've mentioned before. I know I am a pessimistic person, although I think these kinds of thoughts are based on observation and not imagination. There's just so much sadness in the world, and I find it hard to ignore.
