Topic: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

Sorry everyone!  I'm a day late but not a dollar short!  We had a few decisions to make this month, and it wasn't easy pickings!  At the last minute, some new ideas popped up!  TWO SONGS!

The July Song of the Month is
Wagon Wheel by the Old Crow Medicine Show

AND - because last month there was so much excitement about this, we're going to add in a SECOND song!  That's right!  TWO songs of the month!

Down on the Corner by Creedence Clearwater Revival

There's a version of Wagon Wheel right here on Chordie:  Wagon Wheel
And a second one here: Wagon Wheel 2

Down on the Corner has a bunch of versions available.  Here's a list:  Down on the Corner Search Results

No doubt if you do a little searching, you'll find other versions and arrangements all over the web!

Remember, this is a Cover Song, so feel free to do it YOUR WAY and make it your own!  It's a blast to hear all the different ways that people interpret a song.

No doubt we've got some amazing guitar players, singers, harmonicas, ukes, mandolins, and more!  Get it recorded, and share the link in this thread!
*edited to add the second song!
*edited again for a horrid spelling error!

Ready?  Set?  GO!!!!

DOH!  You could have just edited that instead of calling me out.  LOL!  smile  Um, I have good excuses for my extreme error though, want to hear them?  I DID know it wasn't survival, I can say that.  I was in a mad dash as I realized this morning (at the start of my work shift) that I was a DAY LATE on this!  I think I misspelled Revival and did the whole, right click to fix my spelling mistake, and selected the WRONG word.   roll :blushing:  :notimetoaddaproperemoticonrightnow:  ha ha ha ha!

Seriously though, thanks for pointing it out.  All fixed!  PLEASE let me know if I screwed anything else up!  smile

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

Roger Guppy -  your not the only person that pre-recorded the song ~Knockin On Heavens Door~ and it wasn`t me either smile, another member sent it to me during June  because they liked it smile   It is a great song I agree smile  So, when we have a Suggested FSOM, that song requests are put in by members, enter that song again smile

Actually that goes for anyone, if your song didn`t get chosen this time,  enter it again, when its a Suggested FSOM for songs (not to be confused with Suggested FSOM for August which is entering your name to pick that months song smile

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

Hey glad to see you are keep this going a couple of good songs there. Roger it would be nice to hear your version of Knocking On Heavens Door on soundcloud even though it is not chosen as this months.  Here is a couple of lyrics based on the song Ten Guitars by Englebert Humperdink, about chordians
I have a band of Chordians who play songs for me.
People come from all around the world to hear them play melodies.
Beneath the stars my chordians will play a song for you.
If your with the one you love. You can dance, dance to my chordians.
And very soon you just wont know where you are.
Very soon you will see a thousand stars.
When you dance, dance to my Chordians.
This is what you do.
Music is made for love my Chordians will say to you.
When you dance, dance to my chordians.
Come on everybody dance, dance to my chordians.

So who won the June SOTM? He should at a minimum get a virtual pickle! My vote is Rickyjack for the blue pickle

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

I was under the impression that this wasn't a competition. I agree with UJB..everyone is a winner.
But if your handing out blue pickles, I'll take one. I've never had such an honor.

Thanks Chordie for the years of music and advise.

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

toptown .... haha love the pickles smile  But yeah, it isn`t really a  competition of who is the best, more a matter of everyone having ago at the covers smile

rickyjack ....... enjoy that blue pickle smile

Edited to change the word "a" to "at" (Jandle)

I love it when a band not only does a cover not only with unique style but also makes it their own. The band did both. Fantastic Grah1 entertaining and done with flare.

Nice!!

I fooled around with it Sunday. I'm having a little trouble putting the vocal phrasing together with the chord progression. I'll get it before the end of the month though.

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

I was going to record this tonight but I was going through some of my older videos and found a version of Down on the Corner I had forgotten about. I had a brain fart in the first verse but I did recover. http://www.desismileys.com/smileys/desismileys_0859.gif We did this on a lazy Sunday afternoon back in April.
