Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

Graham!  Cool!  Very neat take on the song!
Rick - smile  Nicely done!  Love the harmonica added in there.  It's difficult enough to play guitar and sing, adding the harp in is awesome!
Joe, awesome!  I could swear I've heard you play this before.  Maybe it was you and the guys at the PA gathering?  Probably, since that's one of "the guys" with you in the vid!  smile

DINO - I don't think I've ever heard a recording from you.  It's time.  smile

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

Actually I think I probably played it at your place last summer. It's one of my staples. Since you folks were the first "strangers" I'd played in front of for nearly 20 years, I probably would have included it. Maybe at the campfire.

Well Uncle Joe, I tried to leave a message for you on Youtube, but for some reason even when I sign in with my personal account Google still wants to use my organization sign-in.  If you got "Archery" instead of "Zurf", you'd probably wonder what the heck was going on.  Anyway, I really liked what you and your bud did.  That's what music is about - sharing it with others.

So, I set up a Soundcloud.  I have no idea how this works.  I just followed the arrows telling me where to click.

Did it work?

Aaaaaand - dumb attempt number two with bad picking and worse singing.  If you're a drinking man or woman, this'd be a good time to pour yourself one before clicking on the link.

Here's Down on the Corner.  About my sixth or seventh time playing this in C.

Thanks.

Yea, YT gives me a hard time when I try to sign into the ChordiePa channel.

I have a few of Scott and me up there. I think "Me and My Uncle" came out pretty well too. If you click on "Uncle John" you'll get the whole list.

Zurf ....... welcome to the world of Sound Cloud ......it`s pretty easy to use.  I haven`t yet set up a YOU TUBE account, so cant comment on that.

Loved both your covers of ~Wagon Wheel~ and ~Down on the Corner~ .... some great tabbing in there and loved the chatter and chuckles happening in amongst it all, that just added to it and gave it a personal touch.  You have a great voice ........... i didn`t need any wine or cheese in my ears to listen wink

wink Hey guys, since Google took over ownership of YouTube you can sign in and out of your account just like every other Google Site.  In the upper right hand corner of the page, click on the little picture of your head (or empty profile picture placeholder) to sign into a different account.  smile

Nicely done Zurf!  Both of them!  I think that I may have even detected a slightly different picking pattern in there than I'm used to hearing from you!  Not picking on you of course, I pretty much only have one pattern myself.  It's nice to hear you sing and project that voice out there!  You've got such a nice low tone, and your intonation is getting better every time I hear you sing! smile  Darn it, you really need to come up north here next month!  Your chatter and chuckles almost felt like you were here.

I'm starting to consider making a soundcloud account.  I have a soundclick account and I use YT more than anything.  But I do kind of like how when I go to soundcloud all the covers from all the people in here tend to be really easy to find, as long as they are named or tagged or whatever.  I suppose it may be about time to make the transition.  SoundClick has become something more like ReverbNation - not really for just sharing, but more for trying to sell.  So... perhaps I'll give the soundcloud a try!

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

My daughter loves your recordings Zurf.  We sat and listened together.  She sat.  A 1 year old was voluntarily immobile, smiling and moving to your music.

And I got to rest for nearly 6 minutes.

You are magic.

Thank you!

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

OK. Again we have songs that I do not know and have never heard until I followed the links to what is posted here. Well done to you all.

I am going listen to the original and try and learn Down on the Corner this weekend to record it on Monday (if I can) and then look at Wagon wheel for next weekend. Fingers are crossed. big_smile

smile I was feeling sad today. Coming here and listening to all these renditions of the two songs made me smile.  smile
REALLY GREAT JOB ALL OF YOU!  If this was a competition, I have no clue how I could possibly pick a winner!

Roger's Down on the Corner sounds so FULL - that autoharp adds SO MUCH!  Mojo's version feels like he's RIGHT HERE at the Backyard gathering.  Graham's got the guitalele going and it brings such a unique voicing to songs!  That's only mentioning the most RECENT recordings posted!  You guys are amazing!  Thank you so much for participating and sharing your talents with us all!!!!!!!

Re: July 2016 Featured Song - Wagon Wheel & Down on the Corner

OK I sat down this afternoon and I have just finished recording Wagon Wheel. Again a choice of song that I do not know but I really enjoyed doing this one. As a change from tradition I have no drum and bass from Band-in-a-Box with this time, just me fingerpicking my Nashville tuned guitar and strumming a standard tuned one.

Cool version Roger.  You know what song would sound really great with your approach?  Knocking on Heaven's Door.

Yeah but he may not know that one either and after already doing 2 songs you're not familiar with,  doing another one so soon may seem a bit of a chore. smile
