Topic: August 2016 FSOM: Knockin on Heaven's Door -and- Six Strings Down

This month, we have two songs to work on again!  Names were placed in a hat and pulled out randomly (although the event was partially rigged due to overwhelming member input) and the winners were Roger and TIGLJK!

Roger chose the song titled, Knockin on Heaven's Door
This song was originally written by Bob Dylan.  Dylan wrote it for the 1973 western film, Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid. It was made popular (again?) in the early 90's by Guns n Roses. I think a big part of what made this song so popular was how EVERY time Axl sang it, he made it personal. You could feel the feels (they played it at a tribute concert to Freddie Mercury as well). I have a feeling we'll hear a few different really cool covers!  Several other big names have covered it over the years.  Look them up!  Try something different!

TIGLJK chose the song titled, Six Strings Down
This is a Jimmy Vaughn song that was dedicated to his brother Stevie Vaughn who died in 1990 and other great, but deceased guitarists. It was written by a few guys ( Neville brothers, Jimmy V, Eric Kolb, Kelsey Smith) and first appeared on Vaughn's Strange Pleasures album in 1994 (thanks for the background info TIGLJK!).

Ha ha ha... you DID beat Roger to it!  Although, technically you posted it a day early - not that I can fault you on that.  I did say GO!  big_smile  (trying to give Roger a good excuse here, really).

I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining, I was just messing around with it and came up with that verse.  I don't even play it very well yet but it is one of my favs to listen to.  Hope everyone has fun with these songs

I think Jimmie's song is over my pay grade. 

I'm going to try and put something together for Knocking on Heaven's Door. 

Wondering if anyone knows of a quick tutorial for Audacity or whatever the software is that Russell likes.  I might try something a little different with this one.  Then again, I may not.

Hi everyone, 
back from holiday and i have been checking out all the different versions of the two songs being done by you .... and once again, WOW! you lot just blow me away with the talent on here.

Mojo01 .......... excellent once again, very easy to listen to and i would quite easily sit and listen to your  cover over and over, great to listen to on a car trip smile
Roger............... very cruisey, easy listening cover by you, nice job ...... you covered it so well and i like your style on this one too.
Baldguitardude ......... very professional sounding with the band , nice job  smile
Tigljk ..........well done, loved the added verses and i thought you did a good job of this song.  I actually have never heard of this song before so will have to go listen to the orginal verson as well.

Hope i have got everyone on here that has covered these songs so far.  Mostly covers for ~Knocking on heavens door~ , hoping to hear  more covers for six-strings down too from you all.

I can remember most things fairly well but this computer thing is a slow go for me.
I can't remember how to put soundcloud links up here.
As far as 6 Strings Down...I have never heard of it. I will have to study it some before I give it a try.
