Re: Saturday country classics....

Dondra and I met Mr. Reed at Opryland during what is known as "Fan-Fair". Dondra was writing a Country Music Column for the magazine "American Trucker" at the time and we got to sit with him in his tour bus while she interviewed him. He was just about to release "Goldmine" and gave us a signed album. One of the greats and I'm glad he got away from the studio musician gig and went solo!:)

Nice, badeye smile

Re: Saturday country classics....

That was very good. I had never heard that version and I had always thought Johnny Cash wrote that song.  Good detective work badeye.
I also clicked on the song in the next up list by Larry Van Dyke called "the auctioneer"  -   really good as well.
It is amazing how the stories of people that these country writers knew become such classic musical hits.

A lot of talent back there in the old days !

Johnny Horton - Classic History in Music form !  I use his stuff in my 8th Grade Social Studies class all the time.
This and Sink the Bismark were on every bar's Jukebox in America in the 70's I think - easy for drunk men to sing along with smile

Re: Saturday country classics....

Haven't seen a country classic for a bit so I thought I'd through this gem out there.

It is unbelievable that he could perform.

The emotion and explanations brought me to tears.

After you watch this - find any video  song he sang as a young man on you tube and watch it.... it just leaves ya shaking your head.

Re: Saturday country classics....

badeye I listen to oldies, blues, and not usual country. When I listened to the song you listed I have heard it. Also I listen to classical guitar on CD's and usually compared my playing and timing to those. If they are considered more a "grand father" of playing like Andrés Segovia if I sound different than his CD then I am wrong and I still learn from listening.

Music is what feelings sound like.
Music is life, that why our hearts have beats.
