Topic: Capo Question

Hello Family

Been awhile since I last checked in, and I'll update y'all in another post, but for now please allow me the question in the subject line above.

After many months of not feeling like it, I finally picked up the 6 string and started learning "The Year Clayton Delaney Died" in D. Well, even after transposing to an easier chord progression, my voice still didn't feel right, so I placed my capo on the 2nd fret and there it sounded great, but......my fat arthritic fingers kept getting blocked by the capo when trying to make the D and other chords. Any way to avoid this? An "F" would be okay as I am blocking the 1st 2 strings with my index finger, but cramming 3 to make a D, seems impossible for me.

D'ya see?

Thanks

Bill

Re: Capo Question

Depending on the type of capo - you can turn them upside down ...

Re: Capo Question

I always use them upside down, and I also put them in the middle of the fret, not crowning the fret as it’s said you’re supposed to.

Get better soon man!

Re: Capo Question

And I'll also weigh in as someone who always uses a capo upside down and in the middle of the fret.. Even though I use a minimalist G7th capo, I don't want anything in the way. Here's a pic I found of almost exactly how I use it:

Re: Capo Question

Thanks to all of you for the help. My capo is the same as the one in the first pic, but TF, you have me curious about the G7 one pictured as well. As far as placement of the capo, the upside down choice seems to work better for me, so another problem solved by my Chordian family! smile

Thanks

I sure agree with you, Bill ...

This is one of the best discussion boards I've ever been part of. It's like having a personal consulting board of people who know about all kinds of things, and show plenty of care and passion to one another. Long live Chordie!
