I put in 1959 fender pic ups
The wood is poplar, pine and cedar with oak pic guard ( which took me 5 attempts to make !) sad

I learned so much while doing this......  took a lot of work
It plays beautifully - soft 60's sound.  I absolutely love it.  Now if I could play like Phill all would be great ! smile

and if your wondering why I chose those woods, it's bc they were laying around in my barn smile

Re: These are pics of the strat I built

Jim, when I opened up your post only the scratch plate was there. I thought that was the finish (wood grain) must say it looks beautiful. So I take it you've done the lot with your own fair hands. RESPECT my man, so proud to be able to call you my friend. My Strat doesn't have copper lined routing...good idea. So how does it play? sound? feel? and most importantly....when will we hear it? I also noticed the KENYON logo on the head stock...clever dick

Re: These are pics of the strat I built

This is great work and nice choice of woods. I worked for a long time setting up a work area and building my first classical guitar and after a year is is still not playable. Next time I will buy my sound boards from a builder I know. He can tap a board and know if it right or wrong. Mine looks good and sound terrible. I even tried mine with unidirectional mikes and the terrible sound was louder and not better.

Holey Moley, TIG ... that's absolutely gorgeous!

I'm permanently hooked on natural woods, and yours has it in spades. The oak pick-guard is a real classy touch, and you should be extremely proud of staying with it and this final result. I see what looks like copper foil lining the electronics cavities ... there must be a reason. Will it reduce the usual single-coil pickup hum? Good pickup choice, by the way, although I'll admit to being partial to Fender's "Fat 50" pups. And labeling it with your own name is "la piece de la resistance"!

Great job, dude ... wow, just wow!

Re: These are pics of the strat I built

WOW!  That looks amazing!  Jim, I'm very impressed.  I don't know much about electrics, but I know that takes some serious skill.  I love the headstock and all the work you put into making it all official looking.  big_smile  Amazing!  Are you bringing it to the BYG this year?  wink
