Topic: First Is Best

First is Best
people have told me
the first ones the best
never to be beaten
don`t compare to the rest
but in this case
i`m not so sure
i`d like to try plenty
i`d like to try more
although i`m still hoping
to find better yet
the more that i try
the more  i regret
after all this
i go back to the first
only because
it rhymes in the verse

Your vision is not limited by what your eye can see, but what your mind can imagine.
Make your life count, and the world will be a better place because you tried.

"Use the talents you possess, for the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except only the the best." - Henry Van Dyke

Re: First Is Best

Clever indeed.

I once came in dead last (about 45 minutes after everyone else crossed the finish line) in a 10k back in the 80's.

"Don't worry, about it, Bill", said a friend. "We'll just list you as coming in first for next year.".

Your poem tells me that sometimes coming in first is overrated.  What is always important is trying.

Thanks for the reminder, Brian. smile

Re: First Is Best

Good one, EB ... reminded me of some lines from Alice Cooper's "School's Out":

"Well we got no class
And we got no principals
And we got no innocence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes."

Sounds like the wife shopping, goes round a dozen shops the returns to the first to buy!
It's a serious topic yet written in a witty style. Full marks.
