Topic: Brauns Lullaby

I just added Bran's Lullaby to what I have posted. It is for those who have small children or small grandchildren.

Re: Brauns Lullaby

CG hearing you playing this takes me back to when I was a child listening to it playing on my Nans wind up music box. As a little child every time Nan would open the lid of the box and it started playing it felt like magic to me.  My mother had a windup music box that use to play a short part of the The Blue Danube Waltz which I loved also as a kid. Thank you CG for bringing  back some beautiful childhood memories and this big kid loved it.

Re: Brauns Lullaby

I'll have to play this for my little one - when he was very young I used to sing this to him; albeit with some modified words ... I wonder if he'll remember??

Just curious - do you memorize all these songs, CG, or do you play them all from sheet music?

Cheers

Re: Brauns Lullaby

Most of them I play from memory and some that people request if I do not already know it than Ican bring up on my ipad but it is rare that I have to use it or sheet music. When I do a concert I know all the ones I will play. I never look at my hands like some you have seen. When I play I watch the people in the audience. I have done concerts from over 10,000  to as few as 16 and that one was for the board of directors for an spca and was at at house that was large enough to have a movie theater. My house would fit in her living room and it was so large that people from that were not side by side could not talk across the room. I practice for 3 hours most days so knowing them is from that.

I also play with callouses and my fingers and my nails are kept at least 1/4  below the tips. I have to feel the music and not just go though the motions.

Johannes Brahms took a while to gain notoriety, but his first two symphonies (Op. 68 and Op. 73) are amazing ... so moody and majestic.

That's very impressive - my memory is shocking these days and I always rely on my iPad for the chord sequences, which is bad because then you don't memorize it and it's a bit of a vicious circle.

I always found the concert for fewer people were more nerve wracking than the bigger ones, as it was a more intimate relationship with the listeners - although I've never played to 10,000 - I think maybe 2,000 or 3,000 was my biggest audience at a local music festival.

I'm lucky if I get three hours a week!! I get jealous every time you mention that smile

Thanks for sharing some info about your life - it's fascinating to hear someone who has done so much ...
