Topic: Why Dont Girls Play Air Guitar.

I wrote this a few weeks back  a few days after a very clever nine year old asked me, " why don't girls play air guitar" ?

A nine year old boy asked me an important question.
Why dont girls play air guitar?
I guess it would make them more like blokes.
Maybe imaginery music stores are sexist.
They will only  sell air guitars to blokes.
Or someone  with male intentions.
Someone with whiskers on their face and other infections.
Sometimes I feel the  need to adopt the Silly Me stance.
When asked  important questions.
By those wiser than me with much better perceptions.
Why dont girls play air guitar?
To say they like the real thing would be far to easy.
Why doesn’t this kid ask me something easy,
While on his musical quest  seeking  answers from grand old  folks.
Popular music and  questions about things that happened before his time.
Those he talks to  older ones who refer to Beatles as musicians.
Something  any entomologist would dispute.
Or  the Rolling Stones as the giants of rock.
Something any geologist would dispute.
This kid needs more than me.
Me allegedly someone with the right connections..
Not guilty your honour that girl did not  steal  that  air guitar.
Check  the evidence you  will see this  air has boys fingerprints all over it.
Unless you can prove otherwise  air guitar are made for boys.
What more can a poor  boy do but play air guitar.
Why dont girls play air guitar?
Don’t ask me my heads not pointing in the right direction.
My microscope is worn out and my eyes aren't as observant as  yours.
Why dont girls play air guitar.?
Kid ask an astronomer.
Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus.
What, your only nine and you now want to know why  this metaphor has become  part of popular culture.

I've heard and seen it asked many times.....where does inspiration come from? 10 year old kids, innit? This is a brilliant piece of work, so true and so funny. Though I have to say I have seen members of the gentler gender pick up the occasional air axe and even a blow up one...but that's another story.

Brilliant. I love this and it brings back some early ideas. I more recently heard girls who really played guitar and some I have listed to are very good.

Music is what feelings sound like.

Incredible piece Peatle !

SIgmund Freud would state the obvious - smile   but you got me thinking - I do not recall ever in all my years witnessing a girl rocking an air guitar !

Thank you Easy Beat and Neo  for taking time to comment on and read my piece.This year's world air guitar title was won by a Japanese lady ,  Nanami Nagura. I see females are now taking up guitar more then they use to. I wonder if  many people play air piano??
Jim I guess if Sigmund Freud was around today, instead of writing my piece, he would have presented an intellectual  university paper on the male gender  describing  the energy created by the life instincts and DNA of the male prone to playing air guitar and it's effect on the human female.     When I hear people say they have made "a Freudian slip" I always think Freudian Slip would be a good name for a boat ramp. I guess that shows that I really am weird. 
Phill you are right kids are a great source of inspiration. I can imagine there are people out there who could tell some interesting stories about blow up guitars.
Classical Guitar there are some brilliant lady guitar players out there in all genres but I think there is still a need for more to strut their stuff. I am starting to realise that maybe the Kid is  right not many girls are prone to playing air guitar. I had alot of funny ideas come into my head following his question.

This is absolutely brilliant, Peatle ... reminds me of my younger brother, who would stump everyone with his constant off-the-beaten path questions when he was a kid. Good poem, and good memories ... thanks, mate!

hi Peatle, your poem got me thinking and i came up with a song called "the girl who played the air guitar" ....i've posted it in songwriting and I shall be recording it once i've finished here. i hope i'm not stealing your thunder? but girls do play air guitar just as good as men.
