Cheers Peatle I think it lends its self to the mandolin I might try it at the Hebden bridge  Trades club open mic on Thursday if If I get  a long enough slot.

Re: Welfare line A re write of an old Highwaymen song

Nice one Graham brought an 18th century folk song up to date, loved the clapping reference and the dole whi h wasn't available back then. Sounds great with the mandolin.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

                        D
1. Well, now, boys, we’ve suffered  Brexit
                                                 G
and  life's  gone  down the  drain
     G
lost my job and  self  esteem
              D                          A
cant get them ' back again.

D
I tried to  help  my country,
                                         G
    Worked  for  the  NHS
        G                           D
we didn't  get  no  decent pay
                                 A          D
    they clapped  for  us  instead

        G                                                                         D
So, pass around the bottle, boys, let's talk about old times,
            D                                         A                            D
night's rollin' in, it's cold as sin, here on the welfare line !

       D
3. Couldn't  pay  my  taxes ,
                                           G
couldn't pay the debts I owed,
                                         D
'cause I ain't made of silver,
              D                              A
and I ain't never seen no gold.
    D
    I  remember  poor old Rachel,
                               G
    soft as a velvet gown,
             G                         D
they layed her in the pauper's grave
                      A         D
on the other side of town.

        G                                                                         D
So, pass around the bottle, boys, let's talk about old times,
            D                                           A                            D
night's rollin' in, it's cold as sin, here on the welfare line !
+  instrumental = verse 3
              D
3.  Some folks are born to money,
                                          G
  Most of them don’t care
               G                          D
about  the  lives of other folk
           D                                  A
   They  wouldn’t  think  to  share
D
So line  up at the  food bank
                              G
For  your  daily  bread
            G                           D
The  Tories  count  their money
                              A                    D
and  would  rather  see  you  dead

   G                                                                         D
So, pass around the bottle, boys, let's talk about old times,
            D                                           A                            D
night's rollin' in, it's cold as sin, here on the welfare line !

   G                                                                         D
Pass around the bottle, boys, let's talk about old times,
