Wow Peatle, in my opinion, that is your best yet!  Loved the lyrics, loved the style you played it in and it totally suited your voice.  That was awesome and I applaud you on this one.  Hey is that your art work as well?  It is great with the song and color's changing.   Sorry for taking so long to have a listen.   Bit hard to be on presently as on holiday.

Re: JANUARY 2024 FSOTM – NEW, FRESH, GRANDAD, GUITAR, PHONE, HOME

Jan, Thank you I am glad you liked my effort. I hope your having a good holiday season. I am hoping some others will have a go at this. To change things around a bit I decided to have a go at making some artwork for this video using my computer. Yes, it is my artwork. Wishing you and your family all the best for 2024.

Good one Richard you're a real trouper. It is good to hear you doing a great song by an Australian song writer and troubadour that has been covered and made popular by my many a well-known musical artist  that has meaning too many. around the world.

Re: JANUARY 2024 FSOTM – NEW, FRESH, GRANDAD, GUITAR, PHONE, HOME

Peatle

Good one !  Loved the lyrical message in song.

Richard

It made me think  - it would be a great post for all chordie members to write  a little bit in a separate thread -  "The Day I got my 1st guitar"
I think I will give it a go and see what happens - could be interesting if people respond.

Happy New Year Mojo  good to see you back on here. An old song of yours but still a good one that has stood the test of time.

Mojo

This has comments from 3 years ago, but I don't remember it.
It's very poignant and superbly performed.

Your voice and style - just crazy dude, I love it. It always makes me feel like you are a cowboy
just playing his heart out - using lyrics that are his life.   Magnificent man!
Please keep coming around, and keep the songs coming as well.

I saw this one pop up in my YouTube feed before I saw it on here, and I had a listen back then, I was curious, did you ever have a gramophone? Our oldest record player (that I remember) was one of those "all in one" units, which was pretty much a piece of furniture owned by my step-dad. It's similar to the one below, and hade a radio frequency dial with every imaginable channel you could imagine (I think it used to pick up about 3 shortwave bands, AM, FM and others I can't remember), and the player itself had the ability to have a few records 'stacked' and they dropped one by one onto the turntable. I was in awe of some of the stuff it could do for what was 60's technology.

Anyway I did enjoy the track, and the artwork display was pretty good as well!!

I'm pretty sure I've heard this one before (may have been the earlier version) but it's got a good strum and a good feel to it.

Cheers

Re: JANUARY 2024 FSOTM – NEW, FRESH, GRANDAD, GUITAR, PHONE, HOME

Hi Richard, growing up at home in New Zealand we had a Phillips Radiogram that had only Am radio and a record player. Back in those times there was only three local radio stations  in our area all on short wave.  Later on in the 70's radio transferred more to FM and also we had more radio stations. Some older people still had their old gramophones.when I was a kid. When we lived in Fiji late 50's early 60's in Fiji many of my relations played records on the old-style windup gramophones. Also many used peddle sowing machines.in Fiji when I was a kid and kerosene lamps for lighting at night. I think the problem with many an old gramophone was the needles tended to be a bit harsh on records. My mum who was born in 1920 all her life called anything even if was a stereo a gramophone player.

Re: JANUARY 2024 FSOTM – NEW, FRESH, GRANDAD, GUITAR, PHONE, HOME

Certainly! Here's a snippet of an original song incorporating the words "NEW," "FRESH," and "HOME":

(Verse 1)
In the city where the lights gleam, a new day starts to rise,
A fresh beginning, a canvas unrolled, under endless skies.
We're reborn with the morning sun, a chance to break the mold,
Grandad's wisdom whispers in the wind, stories to be told.

(Chorus)
Home is where the heart is, where the guitar gently strums,
A melody of memories, where every beat becomes a drum.
In this new chapter, we find our way,
Fresh footsteps dance to a rhythm, guiding us today.

(Verse 2)
A phone call echoes through the distance, voices never alone,
Connections that withstand time, like seeds that have been sown.
The strings of the guitar vibrate with tales of old,
In the grandad's eyes, stories of love and courage unfold.

(Bridge)
A grandad's laughter, a timeless serenade,
A home that travels with us, no matter where we've strayed.
The chords of life play on, a symphony so grand,
A fresh perspective, in the heart, we understand.

(Chorus)
Home is where the heart is, where the guitar gently strums,
A melody of memories, where every beat becomes a drum.
In this new chapter, we find our way,
Fresh footsteps dance to a rhythm, guiding us today.

Feel free to use or modify it as you like!

Nice one neo.   I don't know that particular song I have to admit.  But without knowing the original, you performed it well from just listening to you.

Re: JANUARY 2024 FSOTM – NEW, FRESH, GRANDAD, GUITAR, PHONE, HOME

Ok, I have entered 2 very ROUGH #Covers tonight to enter this month.  Both done off the cuff, one time only recording as out and about tonight, and the next few days so won't have time to muck around recording.  Bit rough I must say, and I see from my last recording on Soundcloud I haven't played or sung for 10 months, far out, no wonder I felt very rusty.  Made me think of that old saying "use it or lose it" hmmm.

They weren't as rough as I was expecting, and the addition of the bass/snare was quite good!

Wow, just noticed it's almost the end of the month, better get something prepared for next month ... already!

Re: JANUARY 2024 FSOTM – NEW, FRESH, GRANDAD, GUITAR, PHONE, HOME

Jan your a natural born musician good to hear your excellent version of two great party songs from the 60/s.

Richard, good to see you on chordie doing some gigs with your own songs. Was that gig inside a garage?

Hi Peatle,

Thanks - this was for a house party for the Merriwa club, I was playing with a chap from England, Steve Turner (we even got a mention in his past gigs list! - 21st Jan 2024). That room is a bit weird, it looks like a garage, but it's kind of a games room, although I think you could comfortably fit 3 or maybe 4 cars in there! I also did a couple of songs there a while ago, where you can see more of the interior.

Cheers

lol thanks Richard, was using my 6 stringed Kala ukulele on this one.  It actually is an eight string ukulele but I took 2 of the strings off as I prefer it with 6 strings.
