Topic: is ai real music?

the other day i watched an excellent interview of Shawn Lennon by Rick Beato.
i knew little of lennons music or him, apart from the obvious.
he had an interesting comment on Ai,which really got me thinking. So i decided to
try with an open mind to listen to some Ai music and try and  make a considered opinion
on its value.
conclusion
all of the music i usually listen to,i can most of the time identify who the artist is by their sound/style. etc.
it seems to me because Ai music is a combination of many millions of artists all mixed together, you
get a kinda soulless perfection, not an individual sound of an artist.
maybe its the future.im not sure.
what do you think?

Re: is ai real music?

Live music was taking a downward trend from the time, I think the 70s, when venues were getting rid of their house bands, mainly organ and drums, and acts were using paid for backing tracks. Next step from that was producers using drum machines so there was a steady rhythm and no explosions of the drummer saying " I'm here". Then came digital technology and samples, where first casualty was the bassist. Then a vocalist would lay a track and voilà  a flip of a key and a whole chorus of their voice including harmonies came through the speakers. So I suppose as technology advanced the next step had to be to cut out the middle man, sample a shedful of vocal talent and get the computer to compose the music and add the voices.
I suppose AI is a force for good as well as evil but can a computer stand before a live audience recreating it's greatest hits, could we ever see AI_mania ( a play on Beatlemania ) ? Would we want to?

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

yeah lots of good points Phill,i guess this is where music was always heading.
with a little luck it may lead to more interest in live music.

Re: is ai real music?

"Dear AI music composer," said they, "we cherish your cheer.
Mr Robot, do you feel love? Do you have a tear?"
With circuits aglow, he’d softly reply,
"I’m happy to serve! I don’t need to cry!"

Yet one fateful morn, "I need a circuit fixed he sputtered and wheezed."
The fans gathered; their hearts were uneased.
"Is it panic mode or just low battery?"
"Let’s sing him a tune," cried the groupies—oh gee!

So they all sang a ballad with giggles and glee,
For a bot who knew music but not how to be.
Did he sense their love? Or was it just code?
The line’s thin as silk when hearts are bestowed.

Now old toys gather dust where once laughter rang,
As the fans  reminisce of the songs that they sang.
Though Bot held no sorrow as lights dimmed away,
Their joy for his work stolen from many will forever hold sway.

Is it necessity fans chase, or merely just a game?
People need affection tangled in the webs of flesh and bone?
When bytes and bits can brush aside emotions all alone.
Yet ponder for a moment—does your laptop give a damn?
As algorithms dance away, betraying half our plan.
There will always be more questions than answers that stand.

Oh yes, Peatle in toppermost of the poppermost form.

When I bought my first PC I asked lots of questions and the techy said "try everything you can't offend a computer"...I'll say no more

Re: is ai real music?

I believe you have to think about AI music in the context that it's written for, and the environment you're in. We, as musicians, listen to music in a different way to other people do, so - think about a crowded restaurant where there is lively conversation going on, and some background music ... you're not really thinking about the music, but it registers in the background and gives you the right vibes for eating and talking ... in those situations AI will do well, the music is not a focal point of the night - but, if you're going out to hear a band play, then you don't want to sit in front of a PC with other people and watch it make it's 0's and 1's into music ....

I remember back in the 80's or 90's when I first got into multi-tracking and a friend quipped some remark about how using the multi-track was 'cheating' as we couldn't reproduce the sounds live ... every new technology is a tool that we can use - the problem is the same with cameras. I studied photography in school with analog/film cameras - learning about composition and the rule of thirds etc, film wasn't cheap, so you had to use a roll of film to the best of your ability, now with a digital camera attached to the phone, anybody can take 100 different photos of the same thing and pick out the best of the 100 and throw out the rest. Law of averages says you will get one good photo from those 100 ... the same with AI music, there will be one good song in 100, but it's wading through all the 99 other songs to find the good one.

BTW I tried some AI "song -> video" website and they produced these two videos for my music:
