For YouTube chord and theory lessons, transcript notes can be a useful study aid if they stay short and checked.

I would separate the formats this way:

1. Subtitles help during the lesson.
2. TXT transcript notes help find a chord explanation, progression comment, capo note, tuning mention, or songwriting idea later.
3. SRT or VTT is for timed subtitles.
4. Generated captions can misread chord names, numbers, artist names, and song references.
5. Forum posts should not paste long transcript passages, tabs, or lyrics.

For guitar theory discussions, would transcript-derived notes be useful as timestamped summaries, vocabulary notes, practice reminders, or only as private study material?

I agree that short, well organized transcript notes can be much more useful than full transcripts. In many cases, a quick summary with timestamps is enough to revisit a specific concept without searching through an entire video.

I work with Avenue Billing Services, so my background is in medical billing rather than music, but I use a similar approach when learning new topics. Instead of saving everything, I keep concise notes with key terms and important points so I can review them later without going through the entire source again.

For music lessons, I think timestamped summaries, chord progressions, theory concepts, and practice reminders would be the most valuable. They help learners quickly return to the exact section they need while still encouraging them to watch the original lesson for the full explanation.
