In the middle of the night
i hear it again
theres a barking dog
in our street
another night without sleep
got a short temper
because im so tired
got poor vision
from blurry eyes
could kill for a
good nights sleep
and i just might!
getting driven to despair
just about pulling out my hair
becoming a zombie
i dont care
sleep please
blissful sleep
uninterupted sleep

Dogs In the Dark
In this fair shire where silence should reign,
Barking dogs prowl, driving good folks insane.
The moonlit hours bring chaos, oh dear,
As old legends whisper, “They’re hungry for cheer.”
When the candles flicker and shadows entwine,
Do the dogs take a break, or is that a design?
For when dawn approaches, they vanish with glee,
Leaving grumpy townsfolk dreaming of peace and how life should be.
Great piece of writing there Brian (and Pete your piece as well). I think we can all relate to this, lack of sleep, dogs barking .... Is it our age? We sleep lighter and hear every noise? As a young'un we sleep through it all, none the wiser. On our recent holiday, in the South Island, which we have just got back from. Two places we stayed at in our campervan, in farmland, I could hear through the night the farm dogs, out in the cold, in their little dog houses ( pfffft if you can call them that), all barking, crying out, broke my heart. Bloody farmers and their tough rough ways I thought to myself. Those poor dogs, left out in the cold, in a little caged area, with a pathetic doghouse to keep them out of the cold, meant to be shelter, yeah right. Those dogs work their butts off for those farmers, only to be left out in the cold at night, no love, no comfort. Makes me mad, makes me sad. Enough said.

Brian, I am a townee, and a total animal empath .... haven't got a farming bone in my body. Well, I could do orchards or vineyards, now that's a different story, but no, I would make a totally useless farmer.
