Topic: Deep Dish Gravity

Alright!  After hours in the basement with crappy mics and busted strings, we managed to eek out a couple of tracks that didn't suck so bad even our own shameless selves wouldn't promote them.

This was done on a Fostex MR-8 digital recorder with two directional mics.  One hanging from the ceiling, and the other in front of one of the five amps, which is why you get that awesome "professionally mixed*" sound.  We're going to do some more recording, hopefully on a four or eight track device,  in the near future.  Prolly update the track list at that point.

* By professionally mixed, I mean "Crappy directional mic in front of an amp."

Enjoy!

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

I'll see what I can do.  I don't pay too much attention to the lyrics, either.  We've got 'em on paper,  so I'll have to type 'em in.

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

I like what I heard, very raw but you can't hide the talent you all possess. I'm sure you know the vocals  in "I Miss Me"are quiet in relation to everything else, especially when the bass and drums kick in. You guys are very solid and tight, thanks for sharing. I want to hear more.

Give everything but up.

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

Thanks for the positive feedback.  We're having a good time with it, and hopefully will be gigging soon.

We're doing some more recording tonight with a better mic setup, so hopefully we'll get the balance worked out.  We've got some more songs that I think are better, but the quality of the recording was so poor it wasn't worth putting them up.

In the meantime, there's some more pics up, and I've added the lyrics to "Alcohol Talking."  The guy that wrote "I Miss Me" doesnt' get on line all that much, and our drummer is a complete ludite.  big_smile

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

Thanks for the lyrics on that one. FG.  Good insight into how alcohol affects
young men. Some of the music in that song reminded me of "The Kinks Song"

"You really got Me."  All Good though!   Good luck.

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

That one was originally written for a female singer, so we had to tweak the lyrics a bit.  It's a "close down the bar" style tune.  Lots of room for fun in it.

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

OK!  Got some better recordings up there now, and we put up a new song replacing the Cash cover.

Alcohol talking is played with the Les Paul, as God intended, and we sound as if we're in a much larger shoe box.  smile

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

Hi Jerome,

I spend little time in Bands and Artists and I missed this so I see I shall have to visit more often. Anyway a little Irish songbird has just told me about your recording so I have looked, found and listened and I have to say I enjoyed your songs. One thing that I particularly liked was the guitar intro to the "Circus Song" well done to who ever played that in fact well done to all of you. I will keep and eye on the site.

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

Finger pickin' over C7.

Casey is a pretty good finger picker, and it's the only song he's written.  We nag him to write more, as we like Circus, but he's all shy about it.

We're finally going to some multi-track recording next Saturday.  We're sticking the drums in the basement to keep them from bleeding into everyone's mic, and we're going to dub the vocals on a second take, so we should have a full multi-track demo to master.

Thanks for the comments.  I expect all them mySpace friend requests to be forthcoming.    big_smile

Re: Deep Dish Gravity

Somewhat of a disaster, but still some good points.

So, the guy doing the recording for us couldn't get the four track to record four tracks, so we ended up doing two track recording again.  But since we were in a larger room, we were able to mic everything better, and I was able to plug into a proper bass amp.   Then there was a misunderstanding of what we were looking to do.  We had planned on putting down four tracks, and printing a demo.  He though we were looking to put down 30 second segments of all our tracks, and make the demo out of that.

So in the end, we got two pretty good mixes of "I Miss Me" and "Circus Song" and a half assed mix of another track we do called "Price of Love."

Now the CD reader on my computer is busted, so I can't get them up on the myspace.  We've got enough to promote ourselves with, so we're going with it.  Drummer was sick last week, and I gave my tuner to the pretty waitress at the pizza joint we eat at.  So things are tough.  big_smile

New plan is we're going to use the MR-8 we have to do mulit-track recording.  We'll end up having to play each song three times to get it completely mixed, but I guess that's OK.

As far as I can read and hear, there is nothing 'out of bounds' in this thread.

Don't know why "Concerned Parent" is all in a snit . . .

What exactly are you referring to? I agree with James. There has been NOTHING written in this forum post inappropiate for anyone or anything.

Give everything but up.

My guess is that Concerned Parent (with all of one post) is another cheeky beggar making light of my pentatonic wankery.
