Topic: what do i do?

I am a singer who also writes her own music, never played in a band but would love to at some point. I have been playing the guitar for couple of months, not too well but enough too have made some songs of my own. I would prefer to conentrate on my singing as i find it hard doing the two. I like to sing dido style of songs, but also like country music.although i have my own style. the only thing is most bands are already well established in their style of music or they do covers of artists. so do you suggest me just finding a guitarist to play for me? how hard is it to find a band?

Re: what do i do?

I think that you should continue working with the guitar. The old saying practice makes perfect is a very true one.......

Re: what do i do?

I agree with kerwoman. Keep playing your guitar. You will get better if you stick with it. I am mainly a singer, but if I relied on someone else to play for me I wouldn't be able to play half of the songs that I do because most folks don't play a lot of the stuff that I do.

You might want to learn keyboard some. It's a very good insturment to compose on and one of the easiest insturments to learn. All of the notes are there in front of you, literally in black and white. It only takes a few hours to learn to chord with your left hand while you play the melody with your right. (check out "Piano In A Flash")

Don't give up, you'll get it if you keep trying, but youre not going to learn guitar in a couple of months.

It shouldn't be too hard as long as you have Chordie! Ask around for advice and tips. Then find some guitar players around your area. I hope I helped a little! Good luck!!

Re: what do i do?

i'd lvoe to play for you if you lived in mid-england! lol.

i've done a few dido songs, but i know what you mean. it may be easier finding a guitarist to play for you, althouhg you may find that you may have to alter your song depending on if they decide to change the rhythm or anything if you know what i mean

Re: what do i do?

I have the opposite problem. I have a full band with 2 guitarists, a bass, and drums, but no singer. If u live in missouri maybe we could help each other out.

Re: what do i do?

no one likes a singer who isn't playing an instrument--especially the rest of the band. singers who don't play an instrument miss out on a lot aspects of the experience of being in the band because the singer can't really jam per se. it gets easier to sing and play guitar--you just have to know to play the guitar first. my friend once told me about singing and palying bass (which is even harder) that you have to convince you hands that they know how to play the songs and convince your mouth that it has something worth saying.

also, most singers who play guitar in bands only play rhythm guitar. someone else plays the lead parts. rhythm guitar is a whole lot easier.

Re: what do i do?

1) I don't know how your voice sounds, but I do know how a guitar sounds. Like the others told you, continue to improve your guitarskills.

2) It is more difficult than I taught, sing and play at the same time, or better, play and sing at the same time. Try to start a band, drums, bass, another guitar.

Even Mick Jagger, the rolling stones can play guitar, I even think that he composes too, using keith riff richards to play together.
