Topic: Outside image links

Can any of the admins tell me if the outside image linking is back on again as I've just accessed an image from imageshack in a post.
Thanking you in advance.

Re: Outside image links

Hi Ark,

I don't think linking to images was ever effected, only the ability to embed images in the forum was disabled. This was done for the purpose of eliminating the porn that was showing up and certainly has been effective thus far.

Re: Outside image links

Hi topdown
Thanks for answering so quickly
I thought as I got this answer to my previous post on the subject from James I believed all images were to be stopped.

Hi arkady,
In the ongoing battle against spam, image files have been disabled in the forum.  This will help keep explicit porno junk off the site.

Nobody logs in to chordie looking for anatomy lessons, but there are certain spammers who insist that everyone be constantly reminded about basic physiological facts.  Now, they won't be able to post photos.

Your archery image was really cool (I do target archery and shoot a recurve bow) but since it the same sort of file type as the rude stuff, it is not allowed anymore [sorry!].  James

I just want to get it straight. Is the ban only applied to moving images then.
and  static images linking is ok in any part of the post?

Re: Outside image links

It sure would be nice if that feature could be enabled on a user by user basis, rather than globally.  It's handy to be able to link in images, and it sucks that a few morons that abuse it require it to be turned off.

Turn off for new users until they have 10 posts.  Then turn it on.  That would be handy.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: Outside image links

Ark,

I don't want to speak for the owner of the site (Per) nor am I computer guru by any means. As I understand it he disabled the ability to post images directly in the forum (moving and stationary). Links to images are still allowed.

Of course, messages containing inappropriate links would still be subject to being deleted. (Not saying you would do that, just want to make sure I am not opening a can of worms).

Re: Outside image links

Jeff
I wasn't thinking straight last night.
It's all embeded images that have stopped ones that appear in the posts not the linked images to other sites.

What am I like hmm  Sorry.

Re: Outside image links

Although I sympathise with you Ark on the loss of your archer, I think that Per has done the right thing here and prevented the porn merchants from posting lurid, graphic photos on the site. Hopefully not too many have seen them as we have tried to be vigilant in eliminating the filth.

Also from a purely personal point of view I have to say that whilst yours was quite inobtrusive and amusing, some of the pictures used by some members took over the whole page and as I normally come here 3 times a day and look at every post it gets very tedious seeing the same thing covering the entire PC screen time and time again when I am really interested in what has been written.

Whilst I do like to see what new guitar or equipment someone has got, a link to it is just as easy to add to the post and often is better as the spec is given too.

There is merit in your suggestion Jerome, for preventing pornographic images although I am unsure whether it would be possible to do but for my own part and for reasons stated I can do without them.

So as Jeff has already stated no imaged either moving or stationary allowed apart from the avatars.

Re: Outside image links

Roger
I couldn't agree more with what you have just written.
Keeping Chordie free from intrusive graphic images of all types has my full support.
My original post was an aberration on my part.
All the admin do a good job and I haven't seen any unsavoury links at all for quite a while.
So well done.

Ark

Re: Outside image links

We had a couple of incidents where extreme/illegal porn images was embedded in posts. Link to porn sites are annoying, but you can choose not to click those links. However it is a lot worse when images just appear. I dont like to disable such features, but in this case it was just necessary.
