Topic: So who inspired you to play?

When i was 14 i watched the sold out video of Nivana and fell in love instantly.I know kurt cobain wasnt the greatest guitarist of all time or anything, but he showed so much can be done with so little effort just as long as the passion is their. It was mindblowing to see the way he frantically moved around the stage, and  before breaking into a solo the results during and after is what really displayed a true guitarist to me..

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Re: So who inspired you to play?

hey

the person that inspired me to learn the guitar was pete townsend. i thought the amount of passion he put into his playin was amazin and how he played like his guitar was a weapon was one of the coolest things i have ever seen. it was also like he never ran out of energy when he was on stage.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Without a doubt Randy Rhodes and Jimi Hendrix

Re: So who inspired you to play?

theres not really one person   but i would have to say         kirk hammet  EVH,  and SRV   they all make the guitar look so effortless if ur willing to put the time into it

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Once again I'm dating myself, The outlaws song "green grass & high tides". Triple guitar attack, harmonizing leads, and down right tite playing. There are many other guitar players and bands but green grass & high tides is one jammim' song.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

This is probably the stupidest reason to play guitar...

I was inspired by the movie "School of Rock". Yeah, its lame.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

I am dating myself, but it was Eric Clapton that inspired me.  I listened to the Layla Album, to Eric's first solo album (self titled) and to Cream, and the first time that I heard it was like being struck by lightning.  I was in my early 20's at the time and I KNEW that I would be playing guitar after that.  I have now been playing for about 35 years, and it becomes even more fun each year.  I always have something new to learn.  My advice to beginners: Keep Learning.  And: have fun.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

besides that my best friend was lead in a band and he needed a rhythm guitarist it was probably the Beatles

Re: So who inspired you to play?

who inspired me to play? hmmm, well this is ion electric sectino and i dinny play electric, but I I was inspired to play the electric bass first ( my first instrument before I went onto acoustic guitar) by bruce foxton from the Jam and from ali from stiff little fingers. thos two bass players in the early 80's made me want to do music, and I thin k iwil go send Ali an e mail just now and tell him since I have never told him yet. I told Bruce though somtime last year when I was chatting online with him. funnily enough Bruce took over as Bass player in stiff little fingers in the early 90's.

hmm, thats weird, never really thought of this before.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

when i was  a kid ,Elvis got my mojo working, as i grew i was a big fan of eddie VanHalen..but as a teen hearing Stevie Ray Vaughan on the radio and seeing SRV in concert made me want to learn guitar..Today i,d say it would be Mark Knopler and JJ Cale that inspire

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Strangely enough, Slowdive and Depeche Mode.

Even though Depeche Mode has minimal guitars in most of their songs if any.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

It's hard to decide, Green Day were my original Love because I saw them live. This led to exploration of music and I found bands such as nirvana and Dead Kennedies as well as lighter bands and classics such as guns 'n' roses however I first picked up a guitar april 30th inspired by Nirvana and Green days Good riddance time of you life. my biggest influence has been the red hot chilli peppers who have increased my enthusiasm and urged me to continue, I began to play electric a few months after beggining on acoustic and have recently picked up bass owing to the Chillis bass lines

Re: So who inspired you to play?

My best friend has played guitar for a couple of years so I just decided to give it a try and be as good as him. I didnt really listen to much music before I started playing the guitar.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

My mom has been playing since she was about 14 or 15 so i have always wanted to play...i also love the picking and just the sound of guitars.  Now i am using my mom's guitar(from when she was 14/15) so its really cool and fun using her guitar! <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Well I began with drums ever since I was 8. I wanted to play electric guitar first cuz I wanted to play an instrument, yet I went with the drums. Now I'm 14 and I wanted to play a new instrument. Me and my friends were thinking of making a band and I was trying to be the drummer but they already had one. So my dad bought me an electric guita for my birthday so in other words: My dad and my friends inspired me... Also Blink 182 and Goldfinger. I've only been playing guitar for 2 days and I'm getting quite a hang on it.

Roger waters ( also my god but no god on guitar) is not known as a guitarist. He was the bassist in the band. He does play acoustic guitar now and then though.

Dave Gilmour is by far the better guitar player.
