Re: Tabs!!!!

Okay, this is pretty simple. I'll show by example.

Below, i'll tab out a well-known line, the intro riff to The Beatles' "Day Tripper".

  |-----------------------|

    |-----------------------|

  |-----------------------|

    |---------2-0---4---0-2-|

  |-------2-----2---2-----|

    |-0-2-3-----------------|

Now, if you'll notice, there are six lines in the Tab. how many strings on a guitar? six. so, each line matches up with the cooresponding string. The lowest string is the bottom string, or low E.  next is the fifth string, A, and so on. you'll often see people write out in which order the tab is worked out. Example:

e|----

B|----

G|----

D|----

A|----

E|----

Like that. The lowercase "e" is the top string, or high E.

Now, the numbers. If you'll look at the riff tabbed above, you'll see on the bottom line, which is low E, as you should remember, has the numbers

-0-2-3-

Those numbers are the frets to press. Fingering is whatever's comfortable, unless its specified what you should do.

Now, tabs are designed for people who <i>know</i> the song. If you dont know the song, tabs are more or less useless because you dont know the timing of the song if you only have tabs.

Tabs are a very easy way to learn a song that you are familiar with. Now, supposing you dont know the song Day Tripper, then the tab above will look like nonsense. But if you're familiar with the biting intro riff of The Beatle's classic song, it will make perfect sense. Find a song that you could pick out easily if you heard it and bang it out on your guitar with a tab here on Chordie. Then you should get the hang of it.

Hope i helped, and Merry Christmas!
