Topic: THE ALMOST PERFECT BAND + INSTRUMENTS YOU (DON'T) LIKE

I think a lot about What can be the most ideal band, giving us the best sound.
- Bands, with 3 members, like CREAM: 1 GUITAR, 1 BASS, 1 DRUM, singing members. Is A lead singer who  DOESN'T play an instrument NEEDED? or is he a "ballast"
Financial point = the more members, the less $$ each
- Bands 4 members, 2 guitars, 1 bass, 1 drum, and they all can sing. (MY FAVORITE)
- Bands 5 members, see 4 + singer
- Bands more than 5, see UB40, or an extra piano.
The strange thing is, I DON'T KNOW A LOT OF BANDS with MOR than 5 members.
Sometimes I am dreaming of the result by a band existing of 4 guitar players, playing different BUT in perfect harmony, 1 even 2 drummers, and bass, same, 1 or 2
INSTRUMENTS I DON'T LIKE, a few guys, often destroying a song by trying toblow everybodyaway with trumpets.
I DON'T like SAXOPHONES (even if it's invented by Adolph Sax, a Belgium).
A FLUTE? I was listening to JETHRO TULL, the so,g AQUALONG=GREAT, but the flute?

- WHAT INSTRUMENTS YOU DON'T LIKE?
- WHAT IS YOUR "IDEAL" BAND = members, instruments.

- MY GUITAR PLAYS EVERY STYLE = BLUES, ROCK, METAL, so I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY IT.

i like 2 guitar 1 bass 1 drum and 1 guitarer singing. but i think the singing guitarer should play the least guitar part to the songs so if he is strumming really fast it doesnt make his voice vibrate

my fav. instrument is guitar, i dont like the fiddle i think it sounds to country and i dont like country

I like to see some versatility in a band,  The Beatles were great for this, all four sang,  three great song writers, and all played multiple instruments.
I have no problem with the singer just singing, if he has the voice and stage presence to pull it off.  I really can't imagine Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, or David Lee Roth, playing guitar  through an entire show,  something would be lost in the performance.

Re: THE ALMOST PERFECT BAND + INSTRUMENTS YOU (DON'T) LIKE

You mentioned lead singers who don't play. Well alot of lead singers with guitars drapped around their necks rarely if ever play them, maybe they take one set-piece solo. It's tough being a singer, alone and naked on stage, so a guitar gives them a prop, something to pose with.

The other name for lead singer is front man. This tells you alot about their role, it's not all about singing or playing, it's about 'fronting' the group. A top requirement for a frontman is height. They should tower over the audience, be ready to bat cans away with the mike stand and bop the can-thrower with it's feet. The front man puts down hecklers, talks to the audience whilst guitar strings are changed, works the crowd, tells jokes, fixes everyone with an icy stare, builds atmosphere. It's a tough job and groups with a character like this have an easier time. Think Jim Morrison, Gene Vincent, Bono or Ian Dury.

In a country band there is normally 6.  A lead guitar, a bass player, a fiddle player, banjo, resonating guitar, and lead singer.  This is what gives country it's "country" sound.  I know most of you are not fond of country, but if you do a little research, this is the REAL american music.  It's origin came from America and there is nothing like it ain any other nation.
